light gun question
light gun question
some light guns have the video cable plug thing. do you have to use that for the light gun to work, or can you just plug it into the controller port? I use the s-video input for my tv, so i wouldnt be able to use the one's i've seen on some light guns that only plug into the standard rca video jack.

The Guncons (1&2) are not Svideo compatible unless you use the aforementioned adapter. However, the guns are component compatible. To make 'em work this way, you have to plug the gun connector to the green in a component-able TV and the green component connector on top of the gun connector. The accuracy of the guns is really good if you hook them up this way; I can even shoot at the corners with no trouble (can't say the same when they're hooked through composite.)
If you don't have a component-able TV, I pity you. Everybody else who has one and is a light gun fan has to go get a component cable pronto.

The Guncon is the only one I know that's to be plugged to the video. There are PS1 guns that plug directly into the controller port (look for lightguns in online stores.) However, don't expect great accuracy or compatibility with Guncon games (TC, TCPT, PB1 PB2, and PB3), and really, the only thing worth playing on PS1 that doesn't require the Guncon is Elemental Gearbolt (but you should be playing it with a Guncon.)

Be careful - the guncon basically split the light gun market for the PS1...
There are games that support the guncon and not the regular guns (Time Crisis, Point Blank, etc.)
There are the games that support the regular guns but not guncons (Area 51, Maximum Force, etc.)
Then there are some games like Elemental Gearbolt that support both.
Thankfully most of the PS1 non-guncon light gun games were also released on Saturn. I've found the Saturn's stunner gun is every bit as accurate as Namco's guncon, but without the video plug-in.

You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

It makes no difference which input you use on your TV. The male RCA is designed to fit an adaptor or in some cases like my situation, into the back of the SCPH1000 which has an RCA jack on it.
Nothing on the guncon itself goes anywhere near the TV, it only plugs into the console.
More than likely your console only has a AV port, so you will need the namco guncon adaptor. Or a lead like this -

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

do most PS2 light guns work on the PS1? I believe this one will work on the PS1, the Mad Catz Blaster? :benstylus wrote:Be careful - the guncon basically split the light gun market for the PS1...

I can't say for sure whether that gun would work, but my guess would be no.Pshooter wrote:do most PS2 light guns work on the PS1? I believe this one will work on the PS1, the Mad Catz Blaster? :benstylus wrote:Be careful - the guncon basically split the light gun market for the PS1...

The guncon 2 is not compatible with the ps1 shooters, and the guncon 1 is not compatible with the ps2 shooters, so I would assume other guns would have similar incompatibilities.
