Hello all,
I'm new here so forgive me if I have stumbled on a topic that has been previously covered.
I'm thinking about ordering an XRGB mini. My main use is going to be for NTSC Snes mini modded for RGB, and PS2 primarily for playing PS1 games.
My point of confusion comes with what I have heard about PAL signals. I live in the UK, so my PS2 is PAL, but it does have a Modbo v1.93 installed, which has allowed me to play import games in the past. So I am just wondering what would be best. Should I try and get the PS2 to output NTSC all the time, and only play NTSC games on it, wired through the XRGB-mini, or would the PAL signal be okay? Would NTSC be of higher quality noticeably?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions of a good new LCD that would be adapt at displaying 60Hz, as I think my current old LG doesn't do a great job of it. It loses a lot of sharpness and looks significantly blurry. Roughly in the 27" range?
PS2 PAL into XRGB-mini for PS1 playback (NTSC & PAL)

There's no way to make a PAL PS2 output NTSC all the time as far as I know.
Most likely you will experience stuttering if you play NTSC PS1 games on a PAL unit. Every unit I've tested had a way off spec vertical refresh. You're better off looking for a cheap NTSC PS1.

Okay, so it looks like an NTSC PS1 is the way to go. Do you know if a step down adapter is required for the Slim PS1? Since it has an external power supply, would there be a power pack that would negate the need for a step down transformer?BuckoA51 wrote:There's no way to make a PAL PS2 output NTSC all the time as far as I know.

Probably, I'd avoid the slim though since the upcoming PSISO expansion will only work on consoles with the parallel port.
Pretty much any stepdown will work on the PS1, it doesn't have huge power requirements.

Amiga, Megadrive and Neo Geo are also known to suffer badly with this problem.

I am actually rather curious if this happens as well with using GSMode Selector or HD Xploder.

but to be fair: the Mini is about the only processor to have a problem with that and I really don't know what's causing it. The output should be locked to the input anyway (as it with on most linedoublers).

This makes me want to ditch my chipped PAL machines now. I could very well seeing as I have a SCPH-10000 and a DTL-H30101 E as well. MM3 chipped PAL PS1 would work perfectly for all PS1 stuff anyway.matrigs wrote:WOW.BuckoA51 wrote:There's no way to make a PAL PS2 output NTSC all the time as far as I know.
