Hi-score board index; Updates & new threads. Please check!

Post by spadgy »

As many of you know, I keep the Hi-Score Board Index up to date here. Or at least I try!

The problem is keeping an eye on all the new/refreshed hi-score threads that appear. As much as I try to keep an eye on topics in the Hi Scores sub-forum, each time I trawl through, by the time I've implemented a change new posts have changed the order of things in the sub-forum and I loose track!

So, if you run a hi-score thread on this forum, firstly massive thanks, and secondly, if it's not in the Hi-Score Board Index already, could you let me know here or via PM? Or, perhaps you don't run a hi-score thread but have spotted one that's out of date or missing on the high score thread.

This is now a permanent sticky, so we can use it collectively to keep the Hi-Score Index up to date and useful.

And thanks to all those that run high-score threads for the effort there. It's something all our members benefit from!

And get submitting those high-scores people! :D

Great idea!

Your Thunder Dragon 2 link goes to Drago's old board, instead of Trap15's newer(er) board here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... it=thunder

Thanks for putting this up, I wasn't sure who actually ran that thread anymore. I'll let you know if I run across any deprecated boards :)

You should probably sticky this too.

Hishouzame links to Drago's old thread--it should take you to viewtopic.php?t=43885

War of Aero should link to viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44924

Dodonpachi Saidaioujou: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47668

Hacha Mecha Fighter needs an entry: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48933

As does Moon Patrol: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48682

You're showing me up saucykobold! Sincere thanks though, and to all of you, plus those who have PM'd me.

I will sticky this, just temporarily. Might be a good thing to do and sticky once a year for a couple of weeks, just to keep our house in order, so to speak.

And I'll jump on the updates tonight.

Done. And thanks for the offer to keep an eye out. Much appreciated.

And to clarify re your opening comment, it's meant to function through people PMing me, but the instruction at the top of the main post in the index is admittedly rather easy to miss.

There never seemed to be much interest for this game, but still:

Well, you've put so much effort in! And maybe getting it on the list will get a few people submitting scores!

Any others from anyone?

I took over P_Hat's XII Stag thread some time ago with his permission but the index still points to his (locked) thread. Also, GMOSSE isn't at MK-V anymore, best not to have the version number on the link for it anyway.

Thanks for giving me the heads up to check spadgy. :)

Sorry all - as I'm posting all over the forum today I've had a little unplanned hiatus from the forum thanks to a new work project coming in every day for about the last ten days. Come the weekend I have ample spare time, so I am catching up on all my duties, including this important task.

Thanks for your patience!

Nice one. Cheers Roo. I'll update that now.

This here thread was only ever meant to be a temporary sticky... something up two or three weeks once a year. But it seems sensible to keep it here all the time for people to let me know re scoreboard updates. Sound reasonable?

i would leave it sticky. maybe update the thread title to something like "hi-score board index: update request thread".

thanks for all your hard work spadgy.

What is usually considered sufficient condition for making a new thread for a game's high scores? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

Is there a high score board for the game already? Is it regularly updated or is the person running it not updated fresh scores for several months (or haven't logged in forever)? Really, if there's a game that doesn't have a scoreboard already (use the search function/index) then make one. But some old games that don't get many posts may still be run by someone updating scoreboards so if the board is up-to-date it probably doesn't need a new person running it. It's only when scoreboards are seriously out-of-date and fresh scores haven't been updated for months that someone usually decides to host a new thread.

Well it hasn't been updated for months, but there haven't been anyone posting scores up until me. I guess I'm kinda wondering how long I should wait before I decide that it's dead. Here is a link: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32143
The user actually logged in last fairly recently, supposedly (2 days ago, I guess. last I checked it was quite a bit longer) but has not answered my PM or updated the thread. Last post was over a year ago.

I guessing he logged in just to read your PM. If that is the case, and he read your PM and ignored it, then you may as well start a new one.

Re: Hi-score board index; Updates & new threads. Please chec

I certainly always go with a friendly 'happy to take over' PM if there's a seemingly dead high-score board that appears to need somebody to step in and revive it. While it's unlikely it would ever happen, if somebody doesn't reply to a PM after a few days or seeing it, it's probably safe to go for it. Worst comes to the worst, and the old owner misunderstood and wants their thread back, as long as they're quick in letting people know, it's very likely an amicable return to the old thread can be sorted (or something else).

And good job for being interested in running a high score thread!

Is there a high score board for Super Stardust HD? I can't find one here..
I might make one because I'm really liking the game atm. I know there's online leaderboards but eh, maybe people will post here.
Might do a guide aswell.
