It's quite a fun game. I wouldn't even dream of having it in a top 10 list though.chempop wrote:Is Super Alesta really that good?
Obviously Ketsui for example.ACSeraph wrote:What isn't?chempop wrote:Surely it's better than Pink Sweets...
Imagine for a moment that the bullet hell genre just didn't click with you and all those games looked the same. ...In that scenario, what's left of the shmup genre?ACSeraph wrote:I'm gonna call it hypeNTSC-J wrote:I'm also confounded by the popularity of Radiant Silvergun among casual players of the genre.
Actually I don't gravitate towards bullet hell and I still hate silvergun. There's a ton of amazing stuff from the 80s and 90s that isn't bullet hell, dafuq you smokin'?God wrote:Imagine for a moment that the bullet hell genre just didn't click with you and all those games looked the same. ...In that scenario, what's left of the shmup genre?ACSeraph wrote:I'm gonna call it hypeNTSC-J wrote:I'm also confounded by the popularity of Radiant Silvergun among casual players of the genre.
Suddenly the average shmup is some bullshit from the 80s and RSG looks like absolute genius.
Not what I meant at all!Kollision wrote:people are really pushing it by calling Silvergun bullshit
I just... can't even respond...God wrote:Not what I meant at all!Kollision wrote:people are really pushing it by calling Silvergun bullshit
I'm saying these "casual" shmups fan's probably just don't appreciate pure bullet hell games (like I don't). To them (and me) RSG and Ikaruga are completely peerless.Seriously. Eliminate all the samey-same circle dodging games like everything by Cave, Psiko & etc, and what's left? Traditional hories that are forever old, like Darius and Thundercross. Does anything even come close?
Yeah I noticed you had it ranked highly in your list. What exactly are we missing with it? I'm confident you will give me a better answer than "Darius is crusty"system11 wrote:Pfah - Silvergun is a legitimate contender for the best shmup of all time, certainly no less worthy than Garegga which has won the title in our voting 4 times in a row.

Yeah I'm with this guy, seriously what the hell man.RNGmaster wrote:I can't support this list not having any Touhou games on it
Super Aleste? YES! I think it's the best Compile shooter. If I had to pick just one, it'd be that one. It's got really neat weapons, puts up a good challenge (as opposed to MUSHA IMO), has multiple "hard" modes, good music, it's got lots of variety, almost no slowdown with tons of stuff happening... yeah!Icarus wrote:No.chempop wrote:Is Super Alesta really that good?
Call me when you've united the fanbase enough to get enough votes for only one of them.WizardYuuka wrote:Yeah I'm with this guy, seriously what the hell man.RNGmaster wrote:I can't support this list not having any Touhou games on it
I agree with system11. But besides being a great game I think the console attributes in it is particularly suitable for home use. Here's my take:system11 wrote:Great graphicsACSeraph wrote:Yeah I noticed you had it ranked highly in your list. What exactly are we missing with it? Great sound
Good weapon system
Some really great boss and stage design
It's up there with R-Type, another legitimate contender.
