EEPROM reader/writer

Post by hungar »

I don't suppose anyone has used a Mini Pro Programmer like this ? http://i01.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/896/705/ ... 96_563.JPG I'm a bit stuck

I'm trying to read a rom from an MVS cart to see if its faulty (Toshiba t534200p) but the programmers software doesn't have a preset for this particular chip so I'm not even sure if it's possible?

cheers!

I am assuming that IC is a maskrom, in which case, its a custom chip that is not pin compatible with any standard parts. Reading a maskrom is tricky, and I unfortunately cannot offer you any advice other than to do some reading on maskroms.

Hi Moh, Yeah it's a mask rom. I thought I could read it then compare it to a downloaded rom file to see if it was ok but it looks like it might be tricky.
Thanks for the reply though!

Yeah, maskroms are assholes. They are programmed at the factory, and cannot be erased, they are the one true form of "read-only memory". This being the case, they often lack a few pins (compared to EPROMS) that would usually be used for reprogramming. That having been said, it is far from impossible to read these, you just need to know the pinout. best of luck!

Eprom 27C400 equivalent, better programmers will have that in their device database at least.

Ah yeah cheers System 11 the 27C400 has the exact same pin out. How annoying this one doesn't seem to support them, guess I will have to buy a better programmer.
