Shikigami no Shiro III
Alfa system has announced that Shikigami no Shiro III wil be published and brought into the arcades next Februari.
Very good news for the many fans of it's predecessor.
Now we can all hope for a console port to be announced shortly after.
This would possibly be a quality alternative to the stream of Cave games, that is if the quality of part 2 is anything to go by.

Just noticed some new screenshots were posted at GameWatch yesterday (middle of the page after the HL2 info, Click to englarge)

Hmm, a few interesting things that the screenshots seem to suggest...
1) Nine selectable characters this time around, but it looks like only four previous chars return (Kuga, Roger, Fumiko, and Hyuga), while the rest appear to be new...however, one of the dialogue screens shows Sayo talking...maybe she just makes a cameo...or maybe she's hidden? One of the other gals' weapons, perhaps coincidentally, appears to take on her signature five-way spread...also, the green-haired gal's weapon reminds me a lot of Niigi's, at least in its appearance.
2) The title screen says "developed by Skonec" (the Psyvariar guys); were they always involved with the Shiki series, or did they just sign on to team up with Alfa recently?
3) Both the "A" and "B" buttons appear to have a function on the character select screen...maybe a re-appearance of the "Type 1" and "Type 2" characters from Shiki 2? Looking at the screen highlighting the blue-haired gal on the char select area, there appear to be 2 different in-game models displayed there...maybe her 2 different "types?" If this is the case, it appears that even the costume may change this time around.
4) The character and environment models don't look like they've improved much, but the "special effects" (bullets, glowing stuff, etc.) still look pretty good. Speaking of bullets, although these are only a few screens, I see no Taito Dull Orange Stealth Bullets of Death...has Alfa finally managed to drop those? I certainly hope so, heh heh.
Anyone able to translate any of the text, for some more concrete info?

Flyer. Here's the post from Japanese Gaming yesterday which has a few tidbits in it. And yes, it looks pretty crappy.

What kind of addition is THAT? It basically (it would seem) reduces the game to playing for survival alone, which isn't bad in itself, but for heaven's sake, make people EARN those high scores! If it's as dimwitted a mode as it sounds like, then I'm wondering what the heck is going on over there at Alfa...c'mon guys, the second game was a big step up from the first, don't go backwards on us now!The new installment features a "high tention" mode by pressing the A+B buttons which will retain x8 status, which will presumabely result in higher scores.

Guess he's gotten ahold of whatever crazy gender-shifting drugs that the Galuda gang's been taking, heh heh. Or else this character's just related to him or something...why is it that a lot of the families in video games seem to be named "Kim" (a la Jae Hoon, Kap Hwan, etc. from Fatal Fury/KoF)?Damocles wrote:Apparently Kim _IS_ in Shiki 3. According to Mak JP, the board will go for the low price of 298,000, or 426,000 yen with a Type-X Motherboard.

It looks fantastic to me; I can't wait to play. It's probably not going to replace SNSII in the minds or hearts of SNS fans, but if a game's done right, then it should technically never be replaced. I'm guessing that this will instead stand beside its predecessor as an additional take on the series, and since I liked both SNSII and Psyvariar 2, you can understand why I'm keen on checking it out.
It's interesting; SNSII had a very approachable game system, which featured accomodations for pretty much most varieties of inclinations and skill levels... whereas Psyvariar 2 was less-easily understood, but with a fairly unique and (in my opinion) interesting game mechanic and play approach. Discovering how these two halves will come together and coexist as one, should prove to be quite the experience.
I'm also, of course, looking forward to playing as the new Kim.
(That one Cave-ish girl also looks like she might be interesting to play as, thought I'm of course excited to try them all out!)

My first thought looking at the screenshots: "It looks like shit."
My second thought: "Looks like amateurish doujin."
My third thought: "Looks like the first game with jazzed up graphics"
My fourth thought: "Hopefully it'll look better in motion."
The new addition to the system sounds very badly thought out. Part of what makes Shikigami so fun is exploiting the Tension System. Taking out the risk-taking by pressing A+B to retain the 8x multiplier is just... stupid.
-_-;;
Now I'm a fan of the first two games, but I'm not feeling very optimistic about this - or anything else coming out of Type X for that matter - at the moment -_-;;

According to Game Watch:
With the High Tension system, one can get the x8 bonus regardless of his distance from enemies and bullets. Also, coins dispersed by enemies killed with the character's shikigami will be multiplied by 1.5.

That's absurd. Then again, you never know--They say, "one can get the x8 bonus." There might be some unforeseen caveats in doing so, and, we might even play it and end up heralding it over the "limiting" tension system in the previous games. Of course, all will be made clear when it's out...
Thanks for the info!

One can only hope so, but judging by the language used here, my hopes ain't too high...hopefully the "regular" game will at least play well though.icepick wrote: There might be some unforeseen caveats in doing so, and, we might even play it and end up heralding it over the "limiting" tension system in the previous games.
