Need help getting my madcatz fightstick to work correctly

Post by cave hermit »

I got my new 360 fightstick the other day, and now that I've tried it out on the 360 I wanted to try it out on my pc to play Crimzon Clover, but when I plugged it in my laptop told me it couldn't get drivers for the stick, which was listed as "madcatz fightstick neo". So I tried installing the 360 controller drivers from here: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us ... or-windows
which did nothing. Then I tried selecting drivers to use for the device manually, and I managed to select the installed 360 drivers and get it to work. However, my pc only seems to recognize the d-pad functionality and buttons: it doesn't acknowledge analog functionality of any kind even when fiddling with the three way dpad left/right analog select switch. Furthermore, while the controller works in mame, Crimzon Clover doesn't even seem to recognize my controller at all; it doesn't even respond to the buttons! Does anyone know why my pc doesn't detect analog sticks and crimzon clover won't work with it?

Also, on my 360 if I'm on the dashboard and I try setting the three way switch to either of the analog sticks it doesn't work, but in muchi muchi pork/pink sweets the analog switch functions work fine (at least from what I've tested in the menus): anyone know what's up with this too?

Xbox 360 arcade sticks seem to have some problems with the microsoft xbox 360 drivers. I would give this driver a go and see if it improves controller response. It has some interesting features you can toggle around, plus if it doesn't work you can still revert to the default drivers provided by Microsoft. Let me know if you're having trouble installing or setting up the driver.

Sounds like your stick is working fine for the most part. I've read Crimzon Clover doesn't actually have controller support, so you have to use an external input wrapper like JoyToKey. As for analog input, why is this needed? The stick doesn't have any analog input capability and the slider is only there for compatibility reasons on 360; it's useless on PC.

I'd need to know what version of Windows you are running to help further.

erm ... I think this maybe operating as normal?

It's a digital joystick right - there won't be any analogue ... afaik I think the switch would just swap stick input on a console, it won't change the type of input signal from digital to analogue?

I believe crimson clover has several similar problems recognizing inputs [which may or may not be solved via some driver/OS combinations] - you can probably get round it by mapping your controller to keyboard commands using joytokey/xpadder or similar. Unless someone may advise further depending on what OS you have exactly? ... Also perhaps might need to check/confirm your usb ports are 1.0, 2.0 or even 3.0...

But yeah would have thought you'd be good to go with something that could remap your inputs to the keyboard commands?

I'm running windows 7 64 bit:
So I guess my analog problem is solved since there apparently isn't any analog function, but I'm still confused about why crimzon clover wouldn't even recognize the buttons. I've been playing crimzon clover using a Wii classic controller to USB adapter, so I know that it has some gamepad support built in; maybe crimzon clover won't even acknowledge a controller unless it has some analog function?

The "analog" functions on the stick just switch the way that the stick is sending inputs to the host (your console or PC).

You can select LS = left stick, DP = digital pad, or RS = right stick, which correspond to the standard controls available on a 360 control pad.

In either of the LS or RS modes, it will send analog joystick commands, but obviously the digital input only allows either no input or full input, you don't get anything inbetween.

On the 360, these modes are for compatibility with games that don't allow you to use the digital pad as movement input.

On the PC, the DP mode actually registers as POV hat movements (something that was common on higher-end analog joysticks designed for flight sims). This has to do with the way that 360 controller drivers work, as the device gets recognized as a single controller with two analog inputs, one POV hat, and whatever number of buttons (12 I think).

Most PC software doesn't work with POV hat input. MAME and other emulators are probably the largest exception, as generally you can map any kind of input, so you should be using the LS mode for these. But if Crimzon Clover is not even recognizing the buttons, you've got larger problems.

Connect your joystick and open up the controllers section in Control Panel (you can run "joy.cpl" as a shortcut). I get the sneaking suspicion that you won't see the controller registered there, so you're going to have to troubleshoot that before you do anything else, because even joy2key won't work if Windows isn't recognizing it.

I just tried the joy.cpl menu, and my stick appears there when I plug it in: all the buttons and the pov hat switches register in the properties test menu too (also there's no analog function according to it).

Not all things are equal on pc - even though everyone/thing tries to make it as clear as possible ;)

I think Crimson Clover has some issues in this regard [there were some patches too I think] - one of the recommendations I've seen is to plug in the stick after the game has loaded - see RaidenViper and Xeno answer in http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... son+clover

...There may be other threads lurking about...

However, yeah, remapping the stick to keyboard commands should circumvent any wierdness.
