I don't udnerstand why the 1000 is sought after by many people; maybe it has to do with hacking a PSP? I've never hacked mine (although I probably should because I want to play Danganronpa and I don't have a Vita for the official NA release.)
It's piss easy to hack a PSP, any model. Ideally, you'd want an early 2000, really -- less ghosty screen, better D-pad, really early ones can make a Pandora battery [to restore from flash0 getting all hosed -- you'd be able to tell, power will come up for 20 seconds and the system will turn off, the screen will never light up -- remember that they're only for recovery and can't be used as a normal battery], can use a Pandora battery at all [very late model 2000s and later can't], no issue with permanent 6.60 CFW. Dunno why anyone would want a 1000, with its shit screen, dim backlight, and atrocious D-pad [what you describe is just standard operating procedure for the thing].

Speaking of Pandora batteries and flash0 corruption, now that I'm home I looked up why the PSP wasn't coming up. So, I made the battery [the hard way, involves wrenching the thing apart and cutting a pin to disable the battery's firmware [good thing I had a spare battery from a 1000]], made the recovery memory stick [when the battery has no firmware, it will check the memory stick for what to do apparently], and brought the thing back up.

and apparently, now that I'm home, the thing isn't constantly pressing right anymore, bah -- but it will if I start back playing with it...
It'd probably be an easy fix, but considering I have two ruined PSPs in my drawer [particularly the 1000, which is in many, many pieces], I'm not chancing it [gonna return this one].

Who needs to hack a PSP? CFW seems to do everything people need on most models of PSP. It might be fun to speed up the CPU a bit, but if you're playing a game that could make use of it (i.e., Daxter), god help you.

If you're going to tell me it's "piss easy", you could at least provide a few resouces to prove your claim. :/
Keep in mind, I don't know squat about modding PSPs.

University wifi is always terrible; I can relate to that. Oftentimes network computers are terrible too! It's nice that they've been able to save some time and money on remote launching machines, but any campus with VPro (or similar) machines has a spike in PC boot times whenever a bunch of people need to get on the system (i.e., finals time).

Sometimes internet on campus is the best -- some of the best download speeds I've had in a while were on campus [10MB/s! At home, I'm lucky to hit 2MB/s under optimal conditions]. But more often than not, it's congested, it drops connections, etc, etc.

Switching to another computer and feeling the difference between mouse settings.

I haven't used this craptop in forever, and I have to readjust the pointer to actually land on whatever I try to aim the mouse at. Bleh.

Racing games with behind the car views where the camera behind the vehicle zooms out the faster you go and zooms in when you go slower. This is supposed to give you a feeling of speed, but I'd rather not have my viewpoint rubber band constantly throughout the entire race. Just stay behind the damn car at a fixed distance so I can see where I'm going!

I'm glad to see discussion about this act. For me, there were three acts- the Seneca Crane dummy, the painting of Rue by Peeta, and Cinna's flaming dress that really formed the penultultimate symbolic resistance against the capitol's brutality. When I look back through the book, these were my favorite parts (well, also the sweet love developing between Katniss and Peeta, but that's for another post). I loved the bravery and courage expressed by all three (Peeta, Katniss and Cinna), and I thought it was quite remarkable that there wasn't any consultation or collaboration among them, yet all three acts came together to send a united message to the capitol.
you have got to be fucking kidding

names / franchises not mentionable - to protect the guilty, of course.

When people complain that a game doesn't have enough puzzles, and that you should be forced to use more of the weapons you're given to solve obligatory puzzles. I've seen this complaint a few times directed specifically at Bayonetta which a) isn't supposed to have puzzles because it's about the combat, and b) has weapons that have secondary useful characteristics you can discover, like immunity to damage when walking on lava/freezing lakes, the ability to attack on-fire enemies without being damaged. You're given a bunch of weapons for a reason, because they're all useful in various situations. Sure, you can use just one set of weapons the entire game, but if you can't be bothered to experiment, don't complain that the game should force you to use alternate weapons by giving them puzzle solving gimmicks.

If modern gamers think puzzles consist of "Hey, here's a new item for you with only one real use, and oh look, a barrier you can't cross - gee what item should we use?", I really feel sorry for the state of gaming. Whatever happened to being given a diverse set of abilities and then figuring out for yourself ways of progressing using what you have available? If you want a puzzle, go play an actual puzzle/logic game, or at least something like Silent Hill where some of the puzzles do actually require some thought to progress. Item barrier puzzles are basically no more than finding a lock that needs a key for it, and are a really shoddy excuse to implement new equipment if your shiny toys do nothing but bypass those barriers.

IGN's Top 25 Anime Characters list.

Quite obvious what the results would be, but still infuriatingly stupid. Most people don't know this, but they didn't start making anime until the early 90s--or so the list suggests.

Well, at least they were too big a bag of pussies to avoid some of the most obvious ones...I guess. Really boring choices-by-committee; "oh, we have to mention Nausicaa, and also Lupin IIIrd (but apparently we didn't like them enough to rank them higher)." Their number one choice...lol. Me, if I was making the list, I'd put that crazy guy who wants to become a vampire from Hunter D and gets exploded by the Count in there somewhere. Oh, and fuck Goku, here's Mr. Popo, speaking of your token characters. It makes sense though - IGN would of course love all the Misunderstood one-dimensional types. Well, I don't really know most of these characters, but the ones that I do seem to be pretty one-note shitbags.

Amen to that.

Although I will admit to being an authority in knowing that IGN must be somewhere near the top 25 of "shitty websites that shit out top 25 lists like there's no tomorrow." Evidence? My eyes!

The amount of orgasm sounds used in psychedelic rock music. Nothing like having the sound pumping full volume and suddenly having a woman screaming histerically take over the music. After some time you can single out the culprits and skip those tracks, but it's absolutely embarassing when you're listening an album for the first time.
