Post by Rob79 »

Here's my 1980 Pioneer Syscom component stereo.

The system consists of:
- Pioneer SA-610 Amplifier
- Pioneer CT-F615 Cassette deck
- Pioneer TX-710 Digital Tuner
- Pioneer DT-500 Timer
- Pioneer HPM-100 4 Way speakers (200 watt versions)

I'm also using:
- 1986 Technics 1200 MK2 Turntable
- 1985 Sony CDP-302 CD Player
- Ikea Limhamn stainless steel shelf

Looks great. Really like the choice of Ikea furniture for it, very classy.

I love how nice your older electronics look, man. I see stuff like this on a daily basis, but it's usually covered in mud and rust and dents. So nice to see it properly cared for and still working.

All my vintage stuff I collect is minty, clean, and all works.

It's been so long since I've seen that little "It's a Sony" mark.

And christ, that's some really striking product design.
Really well kept from those pics too, you'd swear they weren't around thirty years old.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Very slick looking setup, I'm using an old Denon stereo HT as computer speakers and they sound pretty nice. This is on another level though, very inspiring.

If I knew anything about audio equipment, I'd definitely try to hunt down parts to make a cool setup too.

Loving your retro tech Rob! Although it's difficult for me to pinpoint why exactly, I have a feeling your collecting/preservation habit is extremely worthwhile, and at one point will be recognised as such.

Loving the Pioneer. The LED's and colours are really nice against the platinum facade. I want to twiddle its knobs.

Thanks.
I collect just for the fun of it. When you realize and understand the old stuff is so nice and made so well, it becomes a habit to go to estate sales, flea markets and garage sales to try and hunt this vintage stuff down.

Here's some other pics of my collections.

My father usted to own a whole set of these things, including the reel to reel. Of course time passed and soon he dumpted it, and or sold it off.

I also had the matching 8-track FM/AM radio to that set, until it was infested, and left when abandoned.

I really miss those products, the record player is quite common, in the wild.

How can you listen on the CDP-302? I heard one in the pass and it was pretty dreadful and full of digital hardness on the highs.

It is actually very detailed.

I use a CD Transport to a DAC/Amp (Audio GD Compass 2 with dual WM8741) then to a pair of Grado RS2-i. No where near MP3s.

has a "subcode out" right?

nice looking system. far too retro for my tastes (and those 4-ways.....wow.....) but it's still very clean.

I like the ikea furniture too. goes very well with the components.

Nice - a proper hifi system :) I used to love the vintage stuff, my PCB habit means I don't have space for one anymore. The only things I have left are a couple of Marantz CD-63 CD players which I pulled out of the cupboard over the weekend and cleaned them up - both working! Glitch on the display for one of them, hoping to fix that.

Just spent 2 hours trying to calibrate the cassette deck playback and record levels.
What a pain in the arse ! :!:
I think I finally nailed it !

Woah, that's some nice stuff man. Tell me you have an appropriately paired set of cans for when the neighbors complain.
