Hi
Ive been offered a SH3 PCB recently but ive noticed the Big Cap on the board has been worked on , Looks like its been installed with a soldering iron and hot glue rather than a SMD hot air station
(ive actually seen this type of repair on 2 cave boards now , ive also seen one with no cap before too , is it a common problem ?)
Ive been told the board works fine but just worried this might be a problem later in life when the cap needs replacing again
I did have pics but there not in my email anymore ? but im sure you can imagine lol .. the repair looks ok to be fair
Any advise would be great
Thanks

Re: SH3 PCB Big SMD Capacitor Question
ahh, I've personally repaired an espgaluda 2 pcb that had an the large SMD pulling up the traces (supposedly someone applied some pressure to one side of it causing this), and i used some hot glue to hold it in place.
its not wise to install such a large component on the surface of the pcb like that. Its very easy to break it off. and much harder to repair..

Maybe I should give this one a miss then. Seems quite a common problem

Re: SH3 PCB Big SMD Capacitor Question
the originals are quite easy to knock off, I've even seen ones that simply fell off as the solder was so poorly done.
its not an important component, a board will work without it but if I remember correctly either the audio or video gets a bit noisy.
wouldn't bother me at all to be honest. it'd be nice if the pads were intact though so I could resolder a SMD cap there for cosmetics.

If it's the right price I wouldn't worry about it.
