Was excited to read the news before Christmas that Raiden IV is coming to the PSN in 2014 as Raiden IV Overkill
The PlayStation 3 version of Raiden IV is called Raiden IV: Overkill, and is based on the Xbox 360 and Arcade versions, but adds a new “Overkill Mode” element. It will launch in spring 2014 as a download-only title. (Gematsu>LINK HERE)
Would just like to know if experienced members of the forum have any bright ideas on how to lobby for this to come to EU and USA PSN? Given the warmer attitude towards Region Free releases of recent Xbox shooters, seems like a reasonable request?
It would make a small but very welcome difference to the absolute drought of modern shooters on the Playstation. Would also be nice if it came out for PS3 as well as PS4...
Can anyone offer any ideas, or at least emails or Twitter accounts for begging letters?!
PS not really up for hearing any trash talk about the game itself if poss...
You might want to ask about Caladrius PS3, while you're at it. There's a chance they'll also be interested in picking it up for a digital release here.

I have just done so, and I have also asked about a possible release of Raiden Fighters Aces for PS3 as well.
Why bother? The PS3 is already region free and it is not terribly complicated to make a JPN PSN account, get a JPN point card, and buy stuff on their store.
Some people don't want to feed trolls who like to inflate prices on PSN cards like Play-Asia. I'm sorry but $10 for 1,000 Yen is fair, none of this $17 for a 1,000 Yen crap. I'm not opposed to buying stuff off the Japanese PSN store as I already have a few things from there but the price gouging pisses in my cornflakes and turns me off big time from even bothering.
PSN: tokyobassist Fighting/SHMUPS/Run N' Gun/Action/Horror/Stealth Games/Arcade Racers/Rail Shooters/Gaming Lore
UFO has worked with them in the past and now they're focused 100% on digital releases. There's a high chance they will bring this to PSN like they did with Mamorukun.
It's really not that tricky (hell, even I managed it).
The biggest pain is getting the money on that account (given that you can't just transfer from your existing account).
I think I bought some from PlayAsia (instant, so they emailed me the code on purchase).
I (probably) used this guide: http://kotaku.com/5982662/how-to-make-a ... -the-store
I specifically set up a JAP account just so I could grab a few PS1 titles. From memory:
DDP
Thunderforce V
Xanac
Some Darius game (Darius G? G-Darius? Whatever.)
Something something something else something something
Anyway: of them, I only really bother with Xanac and TFV.
I was quite looking forward to having a DDP that was easy to fire up for a ten minute blast between, you know, life shit, but man... what a disappointment. For a start, it looks like wank. That's not a "figure of speech" by the way; I mean it actually looks like someone smeared jism on my telly. I had to check I hadn't actually managed to accidentally switch off and unplug the PS3, accidentally put my coat on, and accidentally gone to some shop (that doesn't actually exist); where I bought a PS1 without realising, before subconsciously learning how to solder RGB into HDMI on the bus home (which probably isn't possible - I dunno, I'm pretty sure I didn't do all of this?)
Oh, and then actually soldered RGB into HDMI (see earlier comment on the suspect nature of this), hooked up the (non-existent, remember) PS1 to a 42 inch HD TV... and then maybe hit the TV strategically in several places with a hammer. And threw soapy water in my eyes every time I played. Maybe I was facing the wall? Maybe that was the mistake I made? My wallpaper is quite freaky and I suppose-
Okay, you get the idea with that. It looks shit (and it being PS1 is no defence: the other games look okay.)
Secondly: it doesn't even seem to fit the fucking screen properly. I seem to recall there being overscan. No idea what's going on there.
Thirdly (and, for me, most importantly): you have to use the godawful DS3 crosspad to control it. That, simply, is not happening. That piece of shit is good for navigating menus, and... that's it. That Sony have got away with the design of it for - what is it now - twenty generations (rough estimate)? Embarrassing.
Lastly: there may have been input lag, but I was too busy playing something else - holy mother of god, please, anything else - to notice this.
Hopefully the US release will inspire a Europe release. I want Overkill so bloody much! I no there's workarounds, but playing it easily on my PAL account would be lovely.

Are Rising Star the only heroes we can depend upon for this?
That trailer made me so overjoyed I could cry. Judging from the new music in the trailer, I really hope there are enough new music tracks to satisfy my craving for new Raiden music. Also, can anyone tell from the gameplay how this new "Overkill" mode will work? It seems you can build a meter to a Max level of 5, and different value medals are released from enemies. Also, at 0:51-0:54, are those all new stages? I really pray that they are

Looking at the trailer, while I can't pretend to understand, it looks like there's plenty new to the system. Chains of fairies following the player craft, some new green power-up, various new counters and HUD elements in-game and at the end of level bonus screen. Looks like enough of a change to me! And looks more complex too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that green weapon is not new. It was the Proton Laser from Raiden III, but it's only useable by the Raiden MK-II in Raiden IV. Also, upon further inspection of the video, it appears that in order to fill the meters up, you have to keep shooting at the wreckage of a destroyed enemy, which seems to "freeze" it in place, which could be used for combos/chaining. But what really excites me besides the new Overkill system is those 2 new stages (hopefully there are more than just those 2, or even multiple courses like in Raiden DX, but that seems unlikely), as well as new music hopefully!
