Jap Xbox 360
Jap Xbox 360
Well, I was wondering what all of you will do if we start seeing some good shooters on the 360. If Treasure's announced shooting game is really good, will any of you start importing 360s? (I will have the opposite problem--I am getting a Jap 360 to start with but I will end up missing out on some western releases.)
In the old days, playing import games was relatively easy. With newer consoles, things seem to be getting worse and worse. I doubt we'll ever see a 360 swap disc...

Is this right? Why did MS go this route, I wonder?aphexacid wrote:its up to the developers whether you can play their game on a console out of that region.
I would certainly prefer not having to import a 360. If the games are good, I'll import them and hope that someday I can find a relatively inexpensive way to play them.

Where did you read that? That's some really good news if it's true.aphexacid wrote:so far all the usa 360 titles that have been attempted, play perfect on a japanese 360
GP: I've had to leave Japan for a while because of visa problems, but I am going back in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I took time out to rethink some ideas about the direction of my site... On another note, the first thing I'll do when I land is look for an Espgaluda II machine. Fun times ahead!

I'm going for a week again with the wife sometime early next year. January or February I would say. It will be nice to wear my stylish leather coats that haven't gotten any action in some 20 months now. Perhaps we can do that beer then.

I haven't seen that piece of info reported anywhere either. Are we sure it's true?icycalm wrote:Where did you read that? That's some really good news if it's true.aphexacid wrote:so far all the usa 360 titles that have been attempted, play perfect on a japanese 360

I'll be getting the Japanese 360 myself but most likely not until after Christmas. If future Japanese titles are region locked, I wish to hedge some bets. I'm fiending for Senko no Ronde and don't expect this to be the last from G.Rev on that system.
The only USA 360 titles that interest me at the moment are Quake 4 and Ridge Racer 6. PGR looks good, but I'd take Battle Gear 4 over it.

Plenty of Treasure games have made their way over here to the US; so whatever shooter Treasure develops for the 360 may indeed end up also getting a US release. If Mircosoft is so 2D friendly, then they'd certainly be stupid for not letting a game developed by Treasure over here.
With all the modding that went on with the first XBOX, I seriously doubt that 360's from any region of the world will be region-free. And the thing will probably be harder to "crack" then Fort Knox; in terms of modding it. I'd love to see a simple boot disc, that doesn't even involve taking out any screws or parts off of trays, as well, but with the Freeloader for the Cube, I think we've seen the last of those type of boot discs.

What do you mean by that? Even if Microsoft stuff is easy to modd, Microsoft will surely make it harder this time around, I would think.GaijinPunch wrote:Not with the word "Microsoft" on it.And the thing will probably be harder to "crack" then Fort Knox;

I'm sure it will be harder, but really, it's only a matter of time. Nothing is impregnable... especially something by Microsoft. What do you mean by that? Even if Microsoft stuff is easy to modd, Microsoft will surely make it harder this time around, I would think.

Microsoft is hated by a lot of people.dave4shmups wrote:What do you mean by that? My guess is that simply by virtue of the fact that it's from Microsoft, people will put extra effort into cracking it.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

Very true. Although MS really seem to have put a lot of effort into protection this time. Time will tell...benstylus wrote:My guess is that simply by virtue of the fact that it's from Microsoft, people will put extra effort into cracking it.
Also, I found a link to the japanese Xbox 360 region-free games story here. Allegedly some games are region-free like with the Xbox 1.

Come on man, you've never heard of anyone getting their hands on a console or game before it comes out? the 360 was dismantled and examined almost a full 2 weeks before launch day here in the states.GaijinPunch wrote:Considering the Xbox 360 isn't out in Japan until December the 10th, how the fuck does anyone know that?
a friend of mine has had a development kit for a month an a half now. it happens.
so far from what my friends tell me, and what i've seen, playing backups will be no sweat. it seems like no chip will be needed either. good thing too, becuase this thing is a beeotch to put together.

I've not heard of people getting retail boxes weeks before... especially in Japan where the work ethic has traditionally kept items on store shelves, and not in the back of trucks before release. Your even said yoruself -- your friend i using a dev unit... not a retail box. Backups w/o a mod chip already? I've heard it all.
RegalSin wrote:New PowerPuff Girls. They all have evil pornstart eyelashes.
hmm. you've heard it all but i dont really think you're hearing me...
my friend and the guys that tested the u.s. games on a jap unit...totally seperate.
backups being loaded with a boot disc...not "already", they're saying from the way the unit is designed and it architecture, we should be able to flash the tsop, somewhat like the originals. things are still VERY infantile. thats all i'm saying.

Just a follow-up to the mentioning of Quake IV 360, there's a MAJOR glitch in it with no workaround at this time wherein on certain difficulty levels, one of the doors about halfway through the game simply will not open and progressing further will be impossible.
In a perfect world XBox Live Marketplace would have a cheap firmware update you could download that would make your 360 region free for games and DVDs.

what language do i need to speak in for you to understand man? i explained it pretty well the first time i think.
and what does it matter where the unit came from? its been reported on, its not like i pulled it out of my ass.
anyways, you killed this topic already. im out of here, have fun knowing it all.

Whats the big mystery?GaijinPunch wrote:Considering the Xbox 360 isn't out in Japan until December the 10th, how the fuck does anyone know that?
The only difference between a japanese 360 and a U.S. 360 is a bit of code locking out the other region(s).
Therefore, cracking the 360 before it comes out in japan is fairly simple. Take a U.S. 360....dismantle/break it down...and 95% of the battle is won.
Some disgruntled Microsoft employee will provide the missing piece of the puzzle.

If Under Defeat comes out on 360 and if the Treasure game rocks I will get a Japanese 360. Seeing as every single system I own is Japanese, I think that should work out very well for me.icycalm wrote:Well, I was wondering what all of you will do if we start seeing some good shooters on the 360.
