Ketsui comes to the PS3
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
No, prices generally don't drop. Normally you see some discounts here or there, but it's nothing major. If you wait, chances are that the games will sell out and you'll slap yourself because then you have to suck it up and pay a high premium. Raiden Fighers Aces (J) costs more used these days than it cost when it was released. Also note that it's nowadays quite common that Playasia and others add a huge markup to limited editions after a while, so if you're waiting for a game, you're better off either preordering or buying it very shortly after it came out.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Aw shit, even though I have the regular version I'm super tempted to get this. Does the game in the LE come sink-wrapped separately? That way I could sell my 2nd copy and make some cash back.BulletMagnet wrote:In case anyone's interested, I stumbled across a sale on yes-Asia which includes the LE for 80 bucks.
The LE is literally on sale right now. Go get it, see the post above I quoted.Sugar Rush Games wrote:I'm very interested in importing this. It would be the first time I've bought an import game actually. Is Play Asia generally considered the best option?
Also, do prices typically drop on current gen import shmups or are they more likely to go out of stock?
Any advice is appreciated!
And no, Play-Asia are way too overpriced. I always pre-order from AmiAmi. NCSX and Nin-Nin Game are good alternatives too.

KETSUI is now available for download from the Japanese PSN store.
Current cost is JPY 6,300
Much cheaper than the import disc alternative!

This is the second time you've posted this, and the second time it's still not news. The digital version was available on the day of retail, 7/26. Currently discounted to 6300¥ from 7140¥, but even then that's still above the price of physical (~4300¥ on Amazon at the time of writing this).DanMagoo wrote:KETSUI is now available for download from the Japanese PSN store.

At most, the digital version might be viable for people living in countries with import tax.

It was news to me, and therefore probably to a lot of other people.Elixir wrote: This is the second time you've posted this, and the second time it's still not news. Maybe if I had 5,000 posts it wouldn't be, then I could spend my time making new members of my 'community' feel stupid.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I already enjoy this game in MAME, in tate mode, in a CRT, in true low res glory via scart. Is there any reason I should buy for the PS3? Does it feature HD graphics or any other goodies? Is it displayed in interlaced mode? Does it suffer from slowdowns?

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
There are no HD graphics, but there are options to tweak the display; to the best of my knowledge the game plays pretty close to the arcade version, and there's an arrange mode too.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
What about supporting the companies that produce the games you enjoy!?Elaphe wrote:I already enjoy this game in MAME, in tate mode, in a CRT, in true low res glory via scart. Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Then, I'll remove it from my shopping list and I'll save my money. Thanx.

@Elaphe
Do you like Ketsui ? Then buy a Retail Disk Version! The additional content (X-Mode) is worth the price alone and the game itself isn`t expensive. At least, shmupfans should support game designer to safe the future of this niche genre.MAME is not a bad thing for me. I can play shmups that never get a release,or try out a shmup to see it is worth buying/ fits to my taste etc... but don`t damage shmups (-companies) by playing MAME only !!!

It's sad when people in this community are unwilling to support developers. If you want this genre to survive, you've got to pay for the games, obviously.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
He enjoys it enough not to bother paying out for a retail copy...

Elysian Door - Naraka (my WIP PC STG) in development hell for the moment
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Are they gonna localise it? Or do I have to import it. I'm thinking of getting it on jap psn, I would prefer a physical copy, but that would take weeks to arrive, not to mention customs and other bs.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
While MAME is good for evaluating a game and for when you cannot be near your 360 or PS3, do support the developers if they bother to put a port out- especially if they add some worthwhile extras (i.e. X-Mode). This is not a bare-bones port of Ketsui, and $42.34 USD is worth it.
Good thing 5pb (and Cave in general) have put extra content in their console versions of Cave STGs. In Cave's case, add HD graphics to that for about all their ports save Guwange.
Cave is probably watching how well Ketsui Extra sells and using that to help decide whether or not there may be a Ketsui II.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I happily bought the Ketsui PS3 LE, which is a great package. You get the 2 soundtrack CDs and a fabulous Bluray superplay of all loops.

Call me mad but I own Xbox 369 version and the Ps3 one wich I bought only for the superplay included.Bonus! wrote:I happily bought the Ketsui PS3 LE, which is a great package. You get the 2 soundtrack CDs and a fabulous Bluray superplay of all loops.
By the way is fucking awesome and helped me a lot in my strategies.
Anyway I don't wanna let the genre die and it's a shame that a lot of people just play them in mame and try to convive Trap15 to improve the emulation instead of buying the ports wich are IMO much better with all the extra stuff, but ain't free

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Shmups are also amazing value for money, which is a point I don't think I have to stress on this forum. It's easy justifying putting down 60 dollars for SDOJ given how many dozen hours if not hundreds of hours you get out of it, while plenty of "AAA" games last 8 to 10 hours.
(I own Ketsui for X360 and PS3 as well.)

A lot of "AAA" games are just disposable to me. It's hard to replay a Call of Duty game especially when it has nothing new to offer you (except for maybe Black Ops II which has a score system and multiple endings).Bonus! wrote:Shmups are also amazing value for money, which is a point I don't think I have to stress on this forum. I double dipped on Ketsui Extra, even though I already had the PCB prior to getting the 360 one. I figured 5pb could use that sale.

To be honest, the only "aaa" games that are worth it to me are things put out by Platinum Games and Nintendo. Can't really think of anything else worth bothering with.gameoverDude wrote:

Oh and Dark Souls, obviously.

"AAA" these days seems to imply big budgets and huge marketing campaigns. Think Call of Duty, Uncharted, Bioshock Infinite, Assassin's Creeds, etc. Nothing Nintendo or Platinum, or any other Japanese company, output qualifies for that category.Squire Grooktook wrote:To be honest, the only "aaa" games that are worth it to me are things put out by Platinum Games and Nintendo. you wouldn't consider mario kart 8 a AAA title? what about super mario galaxy and/or sm3dw? or would you consider those AAAA titles since some of them are technically the best scoring games of all time?Bonus! wrote:"AAA" these days seems to imply big budgets and huge marketing campaigns. little fun tidbit of information, but did you know that the AAA classification system was originally put in place shortly after Nintendo introduced the "Nintendo Seal of Approval"? That seal meant that the game was tested and approved which actually set a new standard in the industry for game development (which led to the AAA rating system).

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Weren't there two versions of the "seal of approval"? One which stated that it had basically been engineered and tested to a high standard, and another which guaranteed that it offered quality entertainment? Something like that anyway. Tripple A isn't really indicative of anything other than a big budget, sadly, these days. Retail games are pretty much dead to me now. Indies are where all the really interesting stuff is going on.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
not too sure about that but I wouldn't doubt it.
my absolute favorite title last gen wasn't an indie - Treasure's Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. tho my list of favorite games from last gen are definitely a mix
even now... I'm most looking forward to
definitely good titles in all facets of the medium
