Best for me is super fantasy zone.
Also like musha.
I no that's only 2 but no other shmups on the system really grab me unfortunately.
I've never actually played darius 2 or slap fight though so I guess I'm gonna have to rectify that. Think I've played the rest.

So are you saying that Musha isn't very good, or that it doesn't deserve the hype? Verytex isn't bad either.

You seem to be taking it all a bit to serious tbh.

Let's ask Specineff how he feels about Crying. :lol:

Bio-Hazard Battle/Crying still creeps the hell out of me, for some reason. Not even Silent Hill made me that uneasy the first time I played it.

Definitely extremely uncanny valley, but nothing actually scary in the entire game. A bit of a masterpiece there.

DMC wrote:I have been quite dissappointed by the megadrive shmup library. Quantity is great, and I think there are many mediocre or slightly above average shooters, but there are few top-notch games. My general complain is that the games generally represent style over substance - showing off some visually impressive effects (at the time) at the expense of playability. Now that the visual effects aren't as impressive anymore I feel that the catalogue is a bit dated.
Hey, can you quickly mention how to you feel about the PCE side of the spectrum? You think it fares better or worse, in your opinion?

Hmm, not listing AC ports is a great idea. So excluding one Toaplan game & Darius II, I guess I could add... hmm... hey! Your list gves me two great ideas. :D I'll add;

Greylancer
Elemental Master

with my other not AC port shmups I've first added;

ThunderForce IV
Eliminate Down
Bio-Hazard Battle/Crying

Hey, what the crap?! My list looks like just yours now. :shock: Well, I haven't yet go into the Fantasy Zone type games yet. Grr, it seems kinda hard too get into? I always seem to stop like, ASAP. But I hear once folks overcome this, they really start enjoying it a lot? Oh well, better not force it and take it slow is best I assume?

And MUSHA? Yeah, I don't quite get that game either (and it seems like the most popular Compile game amongst Compile fans too?! But for me so far it's like the worst). Hoping what Postmans review about this game is right? That the more you play it the more you get into it/enjoy it... so I'm still gonna give it a good shot/fair chance... and hey! You really don't like compile games. :lol: Yeah, I felt this way strongly at one point too. GunHed for PCE along with Star Soldier series changed my tune, though. So now I have more shmups I can enoy... well, I don't get all Compile games yet, but it's a start. ... I wish you'd explain why you don't like it in that Star Soldier thread I started. I won't get upset or anything like that. Won't even reply if you don't want. Just need to know why?

I want to hear what others you think are great. I'm currently back into the Genesis shmups again due to me working kinda slowly on that port of Darius 2/Sagaia, so I'm kind of jumping onto other shmups too on that system too for intermission breaks. Could you please make an honerable mentions list? This way I can get some more motivation to try others with more gusto. ... ie. think Master of Weapon is any cool?
