Mugen Engine

Post by VibrantMes »

You guys ever heard of Mugen? It's a 2D fighting game engine that's been around for a while now, and is pretty neat.

The only reason MUGEN exists is so SaltyBets can, of course.

also, as an engine, it's not terrible, but no one really wants to put in the work to make an actual somewhat-balanced game with it
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

its fun for a while till you realise there are some char packs out there created that just suck all the fun out of the thing.

So many balancing issues and the stupid characters added in for hilarity and overall cheapness i gave up tinkering with the pack i downloaded a few years back.

I don't think it's meant to be a real games development tool. Just a bit of fun.

Yes, Enterbrain's Fighter Maker is what gets used for legitimate projects.

Well I actually make stuff for it like stages/lifebars/etc, it's kinda fun too

It's not that bad of an engine, though there are some games being made for it like card saga wars:

Card Saga Wars hasn't been released yet, but you can find Capcom Fighting Revolution Demo 2 Here:

http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_ ... ic=41626.0

It's still being worked on, so it will be updated int he future by that creator.

Those are just 2 games of many that are being worked on for Mugen.

Shades of Manhattan was pretty darn good and was a Mugen game. I never did check out the sequel though, but I can say that the original was very well balanced and pretty good. I think everything was done by one person as well. But don't quote me on that.

There are some decent creators out there. A good idea is to browse Mugen Fighting Guild and see what gets the most positive feedback.

Of course Mugen isn't something to take seriously. It's just a bit of fun as someone else said.
