I believe so, yes. And the latest is Vita exclusive I understand. Although I'm more likely to play the SFC games on my flash cart, since some wonderful people have done full translations.dunpeal2064 wrote: I've been on the fence about finally picking up a handheld (again), and am leaning towards the Vita. Are all of the PSP Ys games able to be downloaded?
"It really does get addictive" should do it.I'll rephrase: It really does become habit-forming! (Okay, okay, I should have just said "Its fun!")

Nothing gets carried over.Skykid wrote:Does anyone know, since these are packaged together, if the stats or general character info carries over to Ys II?
Yes, with the exception of Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim(which was done by Konami).dunpeal2064 wrote:Are all of the PSP Ys games able to be downloaded?
Awesome. I won't miss Ark of Napishtim. Played it on the PSP and was not a fan. If I do for some reason feel the need to try it again, I'll probably go for the PS2 port, just to see if it is any better.Jonathan Ingram wrote:Yes, with the exception of Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim(which was done by Konami).dunpeal2064 wrote:Are all of the PSP Ys games able to be downloaded?
But SFC is like horny gaming pheromones to me. I assume the PSP versions got some kind of 3D graphical overhaul? I'll go 2D where possible, but if you have advice on what you consider the best version, it would be great for the record (I'm still a while off though, gotta get through these first!)Jonathan Ingram wrote: Also, Ys II is a much better game. You`ll be amazed by how much. The SFC ones, on the other hand, are rather unexceptional.
It's just that newfangled youtube gaming phraseology that makes me want to peel for the nearest window. I'll live though, don't worry!dunpeal2064 wrote:Ah, I thought we were going the route of "addiction means something you have to do, or else you'll suffer" sort of thing. You got me again!
God no. Not for me. I don't like the 2000 being slimmer and rounder (and lighter). Lacks the same solidity. The OLED is of course the reason why the 1000 will probably be the greatest rip off on ebay auctions to come, too. Get ready for that. So, do the added features of the newer model outweigh the OLED? I've never played a Vita, but have heard that the OLED is sex for the eyes.

I suggest that you play the series in a chronological order. Once you`re finished with Ys I&II, start on Ys: The Oath in Felghana, a full remake of Ys III which completely overhauls graphics and gameplay mechanics. It`s widely regarded as having the best OST in the series and being the best Ys overall. Watch this awesome trailer(made me import the game ten years ago). Keep in mind that the PC version is much nicer looking and runs at 60fps, but the PSP one is pretty good too all things considered.Skykid wrote:But SFC is like horny gaming pheromones to me. So Ys III is best not played in its original side on perspective - did hear some negative press about that one. But I'm a mac user, so Felghana PC is out for me. The PSP version does have the same 3 soundtrack options and an improved battle feature apparently, so that would suit me best.Jonathan Ingram wrote:I suggest that you play the series in a chronological order. The SFC-exclusive entries are Ys IV: Mask of the Sun(there`s also an Ys IV game on Turbo Duo, but it`s a different game altogether) and Ys V: Lost Kefin, the Kingdom of Sand. You can play them if you absolutely must - just don`t expect anything amazing as they are completely by the number. Neither is present on the PSP in any form. There are Taito remakes of these games on the PS2, but they are very cheap-looking.

Ys IV: Memories of Celceta is Falcom making their own chronological version of Ys IV. Both other versions were done by different companies.Skykid wrote:dunpeal2064 wrote:Nope, Celteca is a different IV. So, there are 3 (?) Ys IVs![]()
Can someone (Ingram, you do it) give a chronological list of the best order to play which versions of the games, and which are genuinely standalone (separate stories with no real chronology.)
Nah, it`s all very simple. You want confusing? - Look no further than Falcom`s own Dragon Slayer series:Skykid wrote:How confusing!
The Sega CD version of Popful Mail would be a pretty average game were it not for the localization by Working Designs. I`d argue that it still is, by any standard.Ganelon wrote:Anyone who can stand the US version of Popful Mail should be able to deal just fine with Ys III's mechanics.
Considering that the Vita 1000 models came with a 2200mah Li-Po battery pack (which was not user removable) but with the optional Sony PS Vita remote charger battery pack with it's more robust overall 5000mah capability, it'd certainly extend the gaming time/playability quite easily -- just the ticket for those marathon Vita gaming stints. Add two of those rechargeable 5000mah batteries to your Vita hardware collection and you're good to go.ZellSF wrote:From hands-on reports, the Vita 2000 screen isn't a significant downgrade (it is one though) and the battery life is a bigger upgrade than Sony says.
So it's screen quality vs battery life and size.
I don't think you'll regret either choice, but expect mint condition OLED Vitas to be hard to find in a few years.
It is; there are a handful of not-so-great things about it, but they're minor quibbles when the game actually runs smoothly, unlike the choppy-as-heck PSP port (on a personal note, VI on the PS2 was the first Ys I played, and while the fanbase is generally down on it the game was good enough to get me into the series). Presumably the PC original is the best option overall, as per usual, but I'm not sure there was ever an English release of that.dunpeal2064 wrote:Awesome. I won't miss Ark of Napishtim. Keep in mind that on latest Vita PSP-CFW you only get 32MB of RAM for homebrew.Friendly wrote:How fast does the new exploitable game boot? I need to decide if I should update my secondary Vita which currently has the UNO exploit installed.
PS. Please do not mention the name of the game here.
Which is exactly the same for the UNO exploit, which was on firmware 2.02. Only firmware 2.12 supports high memory (64MB), but there is no kernel exploit for 2.12, only user mode.ZellSF wrote:Keep in mind that on latest Vita PSP-CFW you only get 32MB of RAM for homebrew.Friendly wrote:How fast does the new exploitable game boot?
