So, is there any reason to stay with the Playchoice PPU and not do this mod? Any compatibility issues or graphical glitches?

This is pretty cool.
Dammit if it's so simple why don't they just produce one?
wouldn't that only be useful for the dreamcast? I know of no other console that ever used VGA

Truthfully I'd only be interested in it if it came with a way to implement the audio too. I refuse to spend this amount of money and have to switch cables around.

Isn't the mini able to take in sound from the RCA audio inputs and the RGB signal at the same time (via menu settings)?

You can get an adapter cable with a passive sync combiner circuit from your next door modder. I'm surprised that nobody here on the marketplace sells them already.
I would buy one.

I already use those for component (D-terminal). Not to mention I'd have to swap the RGB in to play something like the SNES.

Why would you use VGA for that when you got component and HDMI?

PS2 can use VGA, as can Xbox. I think we've established that PS2 VGA output is better than component, no idea about the Xbox.

Not sure if it's possible to make a cable that will work for both RGsB and RGBhv though.

I guess my winky face wasn't tongue & cheeky enough. :)
There's the Naomi hardware and Taito Type-X stuff. But that's the same as just a DC and a PC.

Monitor without digital input, lower input-lag via display's VGA input, possibility to scanlines generator, component is crap in comparison to RGB... just a few examples.
Don't know if there's any interest in using with the Mini though...

I never knew PS2 did VGA, wouldn't that be a better way to connect it to me XRGB-3? I know, slightly off topic, sorry.

PS2 does VGA but only with sync on green, which isn't compatible with either XRGB Mini or 3. You can try to use an extron interface to convert it or one of these - http://www.keene.co.uk/electronic/keene ... sbbox.html

Personally I'd go with the latter, might be a bit more expensive than an Extron but much neater and without cable hassles.

I call BS on that, PS3 and Wii do not output VGA. My guess is its some sort of cheap transcoder cable.

Also worth noting that only half PS2 titles support is, so you need some flexible setup to fix that. I know that the XRGB-Mini supports both 31khz and 15khz RGB in its RGB port, I don't know if the same is true for any of the XRGB-3's RGB ports.

It is, but it's still complicated, since you get RGBs for 15khz and RGsB for 31khz. You can run RGsB through a sync converter to get RGBHV, but then again the RGB interface require clean sync for RGBs, you need a at least a stripper AND a sync converter.

Oh yes, I forgot the Extron interfaces require clean sync. Syncblaster black box doesn't so is ideal in this situation, though I've not actually tried it so I'm just going on what the manufacturer said.
