Happy to report the new AC game which I'm very much looking forward to, just got patched to 1080P and looks fantastic now.

Really disappointed that Crimson Dragon got a 4 by Polygon. That game's been in development for ages....

Twitch streaming delayed until 2014.

Oh, and don't go importing one if you want to use voice commands - those are locked to the local marketplace language.

I have a question about the PS4/Next-Gen. I was looking at the games at Target today and I noticed many of them require a huge amount of HDD space, like say 40GB. I'm out of the loop, is that just to boot the thing up or is that amount for installs? Basically, someone tell me I don't need 40GB of free space just to play/boot up a game this gen.

Yeah, they install essentially - they just do it while you're playing so the drive will fill up unless you delete data from games you aren't using. I'm planning to get one of the 2tb Samsung Spinpoint drives.

That's pretty lame. I guess I saw it coming with the PS3 data sizes but this is getting outlandish. Makes me appreciate the Wii-U a little more.

Well, for what it's worth, Destructoid gave it a 8/10

http://www.destructoid.com/review-crims ... 5767.phtml

However, I too am disappointed that most of the reviews so far have been much lower than I expected. I guess Resogun's reception made me hopeful that reviewers would start being more accepting of arcadey shooters. Guess it's back to waiting for user reviews from those I trust.

Rolled the thread back a bit, warned a few people.

As for console wars - having grown up with them I believe it is every gamers right to choose a side and bellow from a hill wearing facepaint and kilts like a scene from Braveheart.

That doesn't mean outright abusing anyone who disagrees, and it doesn't mean going on and on about the Wii-U in a thread about the PS4.

Hilarious twist: Digital Foundry has discovered that the occasional judder of the PS4 version of Call of Duty Ghosts is caused by the framerate going ABOVE 60fps. So Lolygon rated the PS4 version lower than the Xbone version despite it runing at a higher resolution AND better framerate.

I hear the sounds of dollar bills ruffling and a strange sucking sound. Wonder where that could be coming from. Hm.

I'm enjoy Knack enough, but alas the audio and visuals are sometimes way out of sync in the cut scenes. Anybody else?

(I am playing in the UK before the servers are online and before anything but the 1.5 firmware, so maybe soon it'll be fixed).

If you buy games like this, then you are part of the problem.

Thank you Microsoft, for showing your potential customers a glimpse of the future as envisioned by you, by releasing a (full-priced no less) launch title that has half of its content locked away behind micro-transactions.

Let's see how people react to it in the wake of the Street Fighter X Tekken fiasco. It was bad enough that Gran Turismo 2 had me perform license tests to access the content I had paid for, back in the days of the PS1.

If that includes signing in, it's no worse than the 360 became.

As for Forza 5, the F2P-on-full-retail thing is utterly shit, but the game looks fantastic and the PS4 has no proper (60fps) racing games on the horizon at the moment.

Avoid 'em all (F2P-heavy titles).

Crimson Dragon looks neat (even with some minor F2P additions) - at the price I doubt it'll take long to get a copy. I really need to get with the times and pick up Orta, though.

It would be nice if F2P means that stuff might get added in right before they pull online services at the end of the game's supported lifetime (no chance) or if it means that some games get supported longer because they're paying for their own upkeep (seems marginal).

Also, Wooooooooooooooooooooow, that Xbox One launch time. 68 seconds?! I coulda swore I saw the word "malware" somewhere in the link URL. It certainly should be there. I thought the PS4's boot times were bad but given how many features they're packing in it's probably reasonable. (About "25.67 seconds" for the original HGST 500 GBer, according to Tested's SSD/Hybrid drive/original 500GB hard drive comparison.) It's also interesting to note that hybrid and even SSD drives don't make that big a difference in boot time. Creeping towards 30 seconds isn't welcome but this is just the same thing computer users (not just Windows users) have been putting up with for a long while.

Even on the PS4, there's a 60 second loading experience (downloadable Killzone). I think given how many features they're trying to push this gen, it's understandable, but man, them bottlenecks.

PS4 startup time seems fine but the shutdown time is bizarrely slow, slower than my PC's average shutdown time.

Killer Instinct's sales model seems different from F2P for me. $20 gets you everything (though not at once), $40 gets you a lot more fluff, and $60 gets you some physical content with all that. Yeah, there's a 2nd season but what's promised for the 1st season seems like pretty reasonable content for a fighter, albeit currently as unfinished as many other new gen games.

Forza 5's season pass costing almost as much as the game itself has a closer sense of consumers paying developers nearly double to finish the game. Gran Turismo 6's "pay for credits" system has nearly the same slippery slope in consumer-unfriendliness. If Sony really wanted to allow convenience gamers to access cars, then it could've easily had a "pay $10 to unlock everything" DLC instead.

As game development becomes more and more expensive, we'll see more and more of this. Can you imagine paying a staff of 200 a salary of around $40,000 a year each, plus benefits, overtime, equipment, office space, and ancillary contract work?

Nothing wrong with the console war thing, but let's keep it confined to where it was actually good, ie MD v SNES.

How extraneous those ~32,000 colors ended up being. Nice to have, but +$700 worth of nice?

ITT: People who claim not to care, yet continue to read the thread anyway and then complain when ON-TOPIC comments are posted. Amazing.

Back on topic: Looks like most of Microsoft's launch titles contain microtransactions, or at least DLC. Full-priced physical releases with microtransactions are shameful, and the people who buy these games deserve to be slapped hard, because they are actively helping to destroy gaming. Games which are designed in a way that is forcing you to either pay up or waste lots of time to progress are even more disgusting than games that have half of their content locked away in the form of DLC.
