Jamma PCB to Sony PVM via SCART, anyone?

Post by leopardus2 »

I have a Sony PVM-2730QM monitor equipped with a SCART socket which is supposed to accept RGB signals.
Can I hook the output of a Jamma PCB (15 KHz) to this monitor? I am interested in knowing if anyone else tried
this, and if it works.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

you need a supergun. Vogatek supports SCART and work well.

Assuming you have the power going into the board, the bare minimum for video only is to wire up the red, green, blue and sync to the corresponding scart pins. The video signals also required resistance or the picture will be oversaturated (<- my description, but others might have a better term) and the reistance is about 220 ohms. Just put them in series with the signal and it should be fine. The sync can be left as it is I think. For the sound, you can either get an attenuator to bring the volume to line level or make sure the pcb is at its lowest possible level before firing it up, this is because the sound coming from the pcb is amplified.

Usually an ATX psu will give you all the power you need, including a negative 5 volts, but just check it before you start soldering the harness up.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies.
I know the theory. I would like to know if someone has actually tried to feed the output of a jamma board
into this monitor via the SCART.... anyone?

Thanks

Even if you found someone who had, it wouldn't mean much unless they had tried the exact game you want to play. Almost the only thing that could go wrong would be sync rate incompatibility, and PCBs can vary. If the sync was a weird level, or dirty, it might need to be processed, but I bet the PVM's own sync stripper is up to the job.

Well just wanted to know if someone had success with it before spending time to try :-)
Anyway I have tried myself and it works very well. RGB input works just fine (no need to connect PIN 16 to some voltage, just
connect R,G,B, ground and SYNC to pin 20 (video IN).

Thanks everybody!
