what's your definitive version of street fighter?
I was curious to know what people's favourite version of street fighter is.Ever since SF2 came out,I became obsessed with it! i just couldn't get enough of every new version that came out over the years...until SF IV killed it for me. i've loved everything up to that point, but for me,my favourite version has to be SF zero. Not only does it remind me of time when arcades were awesome and exciting to visit still, but the change in it's style from the endless updates of SF 2 was just superb! for me it played even better than ever before, had a simpler look and cool secrets to discover.Sure zero 2 and 3 were great as well but for me the original zero has a special place in my heart.so...what was the best for you?

That would be III Third Strike, even with the bad character balance.. Being able to stop and counter every single move in the game if you have enough mojo just can't be beat, even with no life/energy left and the opponent mustering up all their DBZ bullshit you can still make it and eke out a "put that in your pipe and smoke it" victory, the stuff of rivalries for sure.

SF Zero 2.

In the end, plain old SFII Turbo is probably my most beloved, but close runners up would be Super Turbo & Zero 2.

I'm pretty fond of Alpha 2 and 3(I don't like the announcer in 3 though).
But I'm no fighting expert to any degree, and don't know how good the balance is or anything like that. I just like that it has all the characters, and they all look so nice.

Alpha 2 & 3 (console/Upper) are at the top.
I like 3rd Strike a lot, too.
And Super Street Fighter II, not Turbo, because sometimes it's fun to play a 2D fighter where no one has a meter.

1. Fighter's History Dynamite
2. Alpha 2 & 3
3. II Turbo
4. SSFIV
5. EX 2 plus α
Don't like the III's cuz the character designs suck.

These days I just play Super SFII on the X68000. Might not be the best version, but the MIDI sondtrack is fantastic if you have a good setup and like to tweak a bit.

Virtua Fighter.
Then way down the list, SFIII: 3rd strike

The first Alpha is my favorite (played it a lot on the Saturn, together with X-Men COTA), but i think Alpha 3 plays "better".

Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
It all boils down to Super Turbo or Alpha 3. The simplicity and depth found in the former is unmatched, however the sheer mechanics in the latter are way too much fun to ignore (even if its broken).
They both successfully satisfy my SF needs.

Yeah, it's still enjoyable on its own right (the SNES version, at least).Mortificator wrote:And Super Street Fighter II, not Turbo, because sometimes it's fun to play a 2D fighter where no one has a meter.
Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
yeah it's not the 'definitive' I suppose, but for me by far the most fun I have playing Street Fighter is Alpha 2, like many above. That and Capcom vs SNK 2.

Turbo all the way for me, after that the mechanics got way to much for my brain to handle.

Third Strike and Zero 3. I wasn`t really into Street Fighter until Zero.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade edition
And most likely Ultra Street Fighter IV when it comes out.

Alpha 2 for me.
Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
3rd strike, Hyper Fighting and Alpha 2.
Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
If WW is what we are trying to stay true to, but make allowances for new strategies/tech, I think SSF2T/IIX fits the bill. Alpha and SF3 series are great in their own right, but are pretty far off the path of WW.

3rd Strike is my most play Street Fighter in my lifetime, i suppose it's that.
I do enjoy Super Turbo & Hyper Fighting on a competitive as well.
havent really poured time/effort on IV and it's updates, dunno why...

Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
played tons of 3rd strike with coworker back around 3 years ago so that'd be the one i really get into.
what's wrong with IV ? i didn't really get to play that as people around me right now is all over Blazblue and Meltans (let's not count Touhou VS games here) but i see that someone here don't really like it.

Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
I will when Capcom does, the systems in SF4 are pathetic, scripted combos everywhere (go ahead, try and get creative..), everything stops doing damage after 3-4 hits so people just spend their time training their unblockable setups and other weird "features" to the milimeter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYweRkQ-zfw), that and other glitches that keep turning up in the game even after dozens of revisions. SF5 where?Cagar wrote:Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade edition

Re: what's your definitive version of street fighter?
While Zero 3 Upper has the more complete roster, I think Zero 2 Alpha will always be the most solid SF as far as playability is concerned. Zero 3's custom combo shenanigans are just too out of control, and allow for many unbalanced strategies not present in the earlier games.
I can appreciate the SFIII series, but I could never get the hang of pressing forward to parry, and it's a mechanic that essentially negates the viability of fireballs at high levels of play.

Alpha 2 is where it's at for me. I'd say Third Strike, but I'm no good at it in the slightest and don't really feel like getting better at it either.
I'd still rather just play KOF.
