Who's developing? Looks very similar to French Bread's Under Night In-Birth.

Looks like Shakugan no Shana.

Seriously, I don't know where I'd be in life without endlessly derivative fighting games with high-pitched all-girl casts.

Time to pull your finger out your ass Japan, you can do so much better.

Probably because it is.

It would be nice if this didn't end up being yet another bishoujo fighter. It's not like there's any shortage of male characters open to them.

Even if French Bread isn't developing, I'm certain they're using the same lead sprite artist as UNIB.

The equivalent of a "derivative shooting game", i.e. almost the entire output of Cave and Raizing.

I bet this shows up on ALL.Net P-ras MULTI, what with Sega being involved. There's a video on YT with "FREE PLAY" in the bottom corner.

probably not at all, considering that misaka's assist character is touma

the game seems awful, and the sprites of the recently revealed characters (everyone but shana and asuna) look really terrible.
but i don't mind as long as the game features touma punching kirinio. pyung!

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It looks really lazy, in general. King of Fighters can do this style because SNK has amazing artists who know what they're doing and can make it look good.

I miss when I could be excited for new fighting games. Back in 06-07, fighting game developers gave a shit about making games that were actually fun and unique.

And then Blazblue happened.

Blazblue has never been fun, at least not in any fulfilling way. Unique? Arguably, but the things it introduced were either largely inconsequential or downright dumb (attribute invincibility in a 2D fighter, lol).

Blazblue is little more than a bastardization of what Arcana Heart and Melty Blood did before it. If it were some random doujin game, it would have been long forgotten. Instead, it basically became the template for airdash fighters after it; slow, boring, and overly defensive.

To be fair, the little I've seen of CP seems to have at least somewhat improved the game on a fundamental level, but the damage has already been done.

Two new characters and a trailer. Kirino's apparently got insta-cosplay attacks straight out of Pocket Fighter, and at least one super move that got a laugh out of me.

Well BB's my favorite fighter, so color me biased. :P I go to tournaments, dived right into online, and generally feel actually competent with my main character. It made the game very accessible to a beginner, and allowed me to really get good with whoever I chose. And every character is totally unique, so there's something for everyone.

Also, the backgrounds, especially compared to MB and AH, have character. There's always things going on, people going about their lives, little touches in the universe, stuff like that which I always enjoy(see also: SNK fighters).

If it makes you feel better, I know I'm in the minority. :P My friends hate BB too, despite my best efforts.

Blazblue just followed on SFIV's steps. That game started the trend of slow, overly simplified mechanics to supposedly appeal to newcomers. Also, I wouldn't include Arcana Heart (at least the third one) in the bag of slow defensive airdashers...

For serious. I guess they wanted to have a character tossing around vending machines and playground equipment (also, street signs). Also, how would they handle Celty's special move calls... have her smart phone displayed above her super meter with an overlayed hand typing out what she's supposed to be yelling?

The trailer shows that the sound effects are lifted straight from Under Night In-Birth. This is definitely being developed by French Bread.

One worrisome thing is that they've decided to implement universal one-button autocombos a la Persona 4 Ultimate, probably to make the game more palatable for anime fans who are more interested in the characters than the mechanics. However, if they deal low damage compared to manual combos, as in P4U, they shouldn't be a major problem.

On a related note; UNIB's third guest character will apparently be from Skullgirls. I hope this means they're looking at a US release for the PS3 port.
