Hori USA to offer 360 Flight Stick EX2 & PS3 Flight Stick 3

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Was browsing on the Hori USA site and was surprised to see that they are offering the HTF Hori Flight Stick EX2 for the 360 & the Hori Flight Stick 3 for the PS3.

So if you want to play the 360 version of Ace Combat 6 & XBox Live game of After Burner Climax with a proper flight stick setup, the Flight Stick EX2 is the one to get:

Here's the Hori PS3 Flight Stick 3 version:

The tension on the seperate throttle/rudder controller is adjustable with a screwdriver on the bottom side of the throttle/rudder base itself.

Sadly, the newest Ace Combat: Assault Horizon release doesn't support flight sticks as mentioned on the backside of the gamecase (this applies to both the 360 & PS3 versions of AC:AH).

I tried using the older PS2 Flightstick 2 (that came with the LE PS2 Ace Combat 5 bundled set) on my PS3 but the CPU mentioned that it didn't recognize it saying "Unknown USB device". Of course, SCEA would have to add the proper drivers for it to be usable with the older PS2 games on the 1st-gen PS3 consoles. It does have built-in rumble effects when used on a PS2 console setup when AC5 is booted up. There are quite a bit of buttons on the PS2 FS2 setup that aren't used but are there for completeness.

Looks good, but it still has those unused "decorative" pieces from the earlier model. So...programmable buttons and rumble are the only upgrades over the Ace Edge?

I just wish they would release a proper set of rudder pedals so I can play Apache: Air Assault in peace. Using the button rudder on the Ace Edge is a pain.

Also, why the hell doesn't Assault Horizon support a stick? It's a frickin flight game for chrissakes. ...nevermind the huge dead zone AC6 had when using a stick.

For Damocles,

Yes, those two upgrades of having the programmable button feature & rumble effects capability over the Ace Edge FS controller variant are the only serious upgrades that Hori could come up at the moment.

I'm sure if you send an email through the HoriUSA site, it'll get forwarded to the parent Japanese Hori folks. It certainly doesn't hurt to listen to their customers' wishes & helpful suggestions when improving upon their speciality gaming peripherals.

As for Assault Horizon not having flightstick support from the get-go, that's just plain wrong. My guess is that the NamcoBandai dev/publisher decided that the 99% of casual gamers aren't going to buy such an expensive FS controller setup, thus regaling it to just 1st-party controller support from the get-go (and screwing the remaining 1% hardcore AC gaming veterans in the process whom already have access to a 360 FS setup). There's always AC7 with flightstick support to look forward to whenever Namco gets around to doing it.

At the very least, the FS EX2 variant release is color coordinated with the 360 Slim consoles (compared to the white colored FS controller that came with the 360 LE AC6 bundled set back in 2006).

I´ve been waiting for a proper flight stick release for After Burner Climax, but I´m afraid $149 is out of my reach right now. Not to say I don´t value a nice flight stick though.

PC Engine Fan X!> I own a Japanese black EX ( http://www.hori.jp/products/xbox360/con ... tex_black/ ) flight stick and it does rumble and work with Assault Horizon. (how different is the rumble with the EX2?)

On my end I was looking for someone who tried to use the FS3 on a PS2 to see if that works. (otherwise I'll try to hunt down a ps2 version of the stick)

I was also wondering if that (http://www.hori.jp/manual/fst2_ped_annai/ ) worked with any version of the stick on 360/PS3... ( http://irjb.s346.xrea.com/wiki/Rudder+P ... ick+2.html oh, interesting)

For Shin,

I tried using a Hori PS2-based Flightstick 2 setup on the PS3 but it wasn't recognized by the PS3 itself (although there was a message saying "unrecognized USB device inserted"). I think if SCEI were to release a proper PS3 update with the ability to use such a PS2 Hori Flightstick 2 setup on a PS3 console, then that's all it be needed to get it to work properly. Otherwise, it's no dice for right now.

I'm not sure if the PS3 Hori Flightstick 3 will work on a PS2 console setup, although the dedicated Hori PS2 Flightstick 2 will work with absolutely no problems on a PS2 console setup, indeed. That's a given. Playing the JPN PS2 game of Sega Ages 2500 Galaxy Force II with a FS2 setup is an awesome experience not to be missed (nevertheless, it pales in comparision to the real Galaxy Force II motion-inducing arcade cabinet setup with it's dedicated arcade controls, akin to the Afterburner I/II arcade controls setup)!
