Unfolding on TV,
And there upon the channels

I don't keep up with international politics very closely, but from what little I've read the opposition party has shot itself in the foot quite a bit of late...not to mention that Rupert Murdoch owns around 70 percent of the media down there (heck, here in the US the Wall Street Journal is using this election to [again] insist that climate change is a hoax).

Pretty much this.

From my point of view most people seemed to have voted labor (as did I), and yet coalition won.

Yeah, I think some of it's actually been rigged to be honest. Having the media get paid not to take scrutiny to one party's policies does NOT sound like democracy to me, but rather buying a Prime Ministership. So basically, in a nutshell, all the media outlets apart from maybe ABCNews24 (which btw had different running stats on the election on their own fucking website from the live TV broadcast, inconsistency much?) pushed for Abbott to win, slandered Labor wherever possible about the most mundane of things and even inventing bullshit at times to convince people that the Liberal National Coalition is the lesser of two evils.

If you believe anything of Clive Palmer (link: http://au.news.yahoo.com/qld/a/18859495 ... voting-aec), it actually goes a bit deeper too, and while I find it hard to take the man seriously (he wants to build the Titanic II FFS) frankly I agree with him on one thing: figuring out the voting process is a bitch here, and the AEC doesn't strike me as the most transparent organisation within the goverment so to speak. I tried to explain our process to an American once, it took me like 4 hours - things could be much better here.

"What's to stop one guy to go into 10 different polling booths and voting 10 times."
I'd never even thought of that, it's so simple too.

My understanding is he is like any political figure: A liar.

The aftermath reminds me of US Elections 2008 When Obama got elected and his reelection in 2012. People's comments are pure gold.

Most famously, he dismissed (on hidden camera) the near half of US residents too poor (in most cases) to pay federal income tax (though they pay plenty in various other taxes) as a bunch of worthless moochers who didn't even merit his attention. Granted, such a viewpoint is hardly unique to him (it's pretty much the official platform of his party), but considering how utterly the rich in this country have been eating the rest of us alive for the past 30 years or more it didn't do much to endear him to a significant portion of the population.

No idea exactly what the Australian guy's policies are offhand, but any comparison to the modern US right wing (I've also heard him compared to George W. Bush, though I don't know precisely how) certainly makes me (if not others) wary of him if nothing else.

Because they are plenty of Americans are worthless moochers who leech off the system? How does the rich in the US eat us alive?

Basically he is a bumbling fool (example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyY-xI6zgfk)
His party has pledged to cease the old governments roll out of fttp broadband and replace it with a mix of technologies, all of which will be outperformed by cat 4 lte,
meanwhile spending most of the cost of the original plan. This is after years of them whinging that it was too expensive and it was a waste of money that would be superseded
before it was finished.
He denied his party a conscience vote on the gay marriage bill, thus denying the chance for his own party members to vote as they wanted.
He has openly spoken against abortion, and while health minister vetoed a vote to get an abortion drug onto the pbs. (this veto ended up being voted down in a very heated parliament)
He has pledged to scrap the carbon tax, which has been relatively painless for most of the country, and replace it with a scheme that he wont even guarantee can hit its targets and looks set
to cost more to implement and run.

There's probably more...

Yeah, there's definitely a George Dubya Bush resemblance there. All we need is for Abbott to make a quote like "It will take a long time to restore Chaos" and they'll be like long-lost brothers.

Yes there is. He's a Jesuit like the new Pope. Which basically means that he's a Club Member. Y'know the Club that all the Presidents and PMs in the World belong to. That mafia. The one thats waay bigger than the Italian mafia. I'll post something up in the Voting thread to explain.

There are some, sure, but nearly half the country, without exception? That seems a pretty dim view of what Romney's side of the aisle endlessly praises as the greatest nation and the greatest people on Earth.
How does the rich in the US eat us alive?
Not to take this topic too far off the rails, but feel free to look up most any chart/study/etc. you can find concerning where the concentration of wealth across class lines has been shifting since at least the Reagan years. And while you're cooking up an inevitable variation on the "they're obviously the only ones pulling their weight" response, find me a surely-lengthy list of the titans and geniuses of industry who have received any manner of significant comeuppance for their commanding role in bringing the recession to pass, versus the lowly schmoes who listened to them and lost their homes and life savings in the process.

If the guy is planning government involvement in a broadband internet rollout, he's no Mitt Romney. R-MONEY would say that is something for private enterprise to do, most likely. I think it's harder to make the case for privatization throughout far-flung, rural Australia though.

Anyway, all I get from howfuckedisaustralia.com is "LIBERTARIAN PARADISE!"

It's already contracted out in terms of the installation of the infrastructure.

Main reason it was done through government in the first place rather than private enterprise entirely (remember this was a Labor idea first) is because A) it was considered an asset for taxpayers anyway, a necessity even, and B) Telstra has a monopoly on all of the lines here, they've been fucking up everything of late, and they won't do much if any upgrading themselves anyway so we needed a different "company" at the realms. Slack fuckers basically, so this was going to be a kick up the ass to them and give other ISPs a fairer go.

Yeah he is planning the broadband roll out, last time around their plan was to scrap the entire project (all Romney like) and many said that was what
lost them the election. The problem is now though that they have changed the plan from a fiber to the premises one to a fttn. Which is coming in at about 75%
of the cost of the original plan (or there abouts). So the complaint is its 75% of the expenditure for 10% the performance.

And to add to your list of reasons BPzeBanshee c)there aint no way any private enterprise would be pouring money into a serious broadband network in Aus, a country that is over 75% the landmass of the U.S, with 7% the population.

Looks like I will be moving to one of the small patches that has already been connected or is due to be soon, so I shall be getting fiber all the way to my front door. Which shall be great, after years of really dodgey adsl2+ that is out performed occasionally by my 3G phone :S. Telstra suck :P
