Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
I recall seeing an announcement for a DS Karous some time back, before Milestone went belly up...something tells me this is just a holdover from that, unless there's been some development I'm unaware of.

Is this a sequel or a port?

Nobody knows yet. Zero info at the site.evil_ash_xero wrote:Is this a sequel or a port?
Edit:
Aaand as soon as I posted that, Dengeki put up a brief article about it. All it says though is that it "takes up the line" of the Karous that was released in 2006. Sounds like a trumped-up port or remake. Also they mention that it will have streeetpass features.

Get me an eshop release, and I just might have enough games to justify purchasing a 3DS.
Good to see that the Milestone guys are still around in some capacity; hopefully they have some new project in the works to get themselves some money.

Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
And just very recently, Nintendo ended up releasing an all black colored 3DS-XL variant handheld for sale in the USA. Better later than never and it'll surely compliment my black DS Lite and "Cosmo Black" colored 3DS indeed. Nintendo never did release an all-black colored DSi-XL variant though (although plently of other color schemes were released with the DSi-XL lineup).

What a delightful surprise. I'm guessing maybe this is a fallback company of sorts for MileStone employees? They didn't file for bankruptcy so I don't see why they would have had to sell their IPs. Here's hoping it get localized. Maybe digital distribution will make the prospect more enticing as it did for G.Rev's Kokuga.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Sakura Flamingo Laboratory has existed for over a year now, I think...MathU wrote:What a delightful surprise. I'm guessing maybe this is a fallback company of sorts for MileStone employees? They didn't file for bankruptcy so I don't see why they would have had to sell their IPs.
I visited SFL's official page and I found out that Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden is neither SFL's first game nor only game. (All of SFL's games at this time of posting are for the 3DS.)
In fact, the title "Karous: Beast of Re: Eden" was revealed for the first time in an SFL concert last July 20, according to Dengeki.
I express my apologies for posting a bunch of mobile shmup threads in this forum in recent months, because some members perceive them as "spam." I have to redeem myself.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Well at the very least Kou Hayashi and Daisuke Nagata have a new place to produce video game music again. The only other MileStone employee I'm familiar with was its president, Hiroshi Kimura, the one who got arrested last March for selling securities for his bio energy company. Several of MileStone's shooter ideas were his own so there's no telling exactly what was lost with him.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

There's no chance in hell this will have a retail release outside of Japan. Still, bring it to the eShop and I'll swallow my pride and buy it from there just like I did with Kokuga.

Thank you based Milestone/SFL.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
They should release it for Dreamcast
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Really? No one has found a workaround on the region locking of the 3DS yet? You'd think that by now they would have. Strange.
I don't even own a US 3DS yet...I'm certainly not going to pay the uber-premium for a Japanese unit and the import.

waiting for people to start complaining about how the 2ds should be a tablet so they can play this with a vertical screen and Real Buttons

There is one, but it boils down to "use a flash cart, since it ignores the region lock". :/boagman wrote:Really? No one has found a workaround on the region locking of the 3DS yet?
Be a good citizen and keep a copy sealed to feel entitled to your illegal deeds!
Edit: just tried it, the gateway exploit doesn't allow for legit import games.
(Tried on EU 3DS with US retail game)
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
UFO could release this, right? I think I remember they said they wouldn't do more Milestone games. I did put in a request to XSEED on their forums and I know Aksys or Rising Star wouldn't want to get it either.

UFO doesn't do physical releases anymore, as far as I know.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
This is a perfect reason to buy a Japanese region 2DS not to mention the huge import backlog.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Not to get too off topic, but what backlog? I've been following the 3DS releases pretty closely and I can't think of a single other Japanese game that would be worth owning the system for. I'm truly curious.mosey wrote:This is a perfect reason to buy a Japanese region 2DS not to mention the huge import backlog.

I haven't actually looked beyond the DS Ketsui, but surely there are worthy JP DS imports?!

2DS has not been announced for release in Japan, as far as I know.mosey wrote:This is a perfect reason to buy a Japanese region 2DS not to mention the huge import backlog.

I don't know. The trademark was registered in the US, so it looks like it may be coming here.mosey wrote:I haven't actually looked beyond the DS Ketsui, but surely there are worthy JP DS imports?!

Interesting. Seems like a system mainly targeting youth in the US.GSK wrote:mosey wrote: 2DS has not been announced for release in Japan, as far as I know.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Probably because most Japanese kids are a lot less likely to break their devices.
Re: Karous: the Beast of Re: Eden for 3DS
Great to hear this is coming. But the chances of a Western release? Perhaps the 'success' (critically, at least) of Kokuga's Western eShop release might inspire Karous' developer to bring the game to the US and Europe as a download.
