Seimitsu LS-56 issue, DC agetec stick mod

I have just modded my agetec dreamcast stick with a Seimitsu LS-56 lever. Everything is mounted correctly and securely.

The lever must be defective, it squeaks and there is inconsistent resistance to all movement. It ironically feels just like the stock agetec lever.

Basically when directly compared to my LS-32 it is complete crap.

Perhaps it needs a lubricant applied. I can't exactly return it because I have already drilled 4 holes into the mounting plate.

Any suggestions? What is this lever supposed to feel like?

Both my LS-56's were fairly tight and went through a little "squeaking" episode when I first installed them.
They broke in nicely, however, as they now feel very accurate (especially with the octo gate) and I haven't noticed any squeaking since.

So my advice is to stick with it and hopefully it will break in nicely as mine have.

This mod is tricky, the easiest way to mount the lever is to affix it to the uppermost plastic having ground away the housing for the stock lever. This leaves the new lever lower than normal which is why I choose the LS-56 with its longer shaft. Even with the LS-56 the shaft is a mm or 2 lower than I would like. Do you think that is acceptable? It is hard to judge as the lever doesn't feel right yet.

The only part of the lever exposed during drilling was the mounting plate so it isn't possible for debris to have made its way in

Oh, that's indeed very low, even the 1.8cm for the ls-32. Seimitsu and Sanwa sticks should basically stick out about 23-24 mm. I got an LS-55 mounted in my panel @ 21 mm and i that is already barely comfortable for me.

I measured incorrectly. I didn't remove the ball tops.

The LS-32 is in a stock hrap ex-se unmodified.

The LS-56 in my new stick is 2mm lower.

Well imho that's alright then.

If it is bothering you a lot and you aren't using a grip where one of your fingers is very close to the bottom of the balltop you could put some washers on the thread where you screw the balltop on.

I wouldn't bother tbh.

I hope it just needs breaking in as checking out the lever means disconnecting all of the wiring, unmounting it and dissembling it.
