Mighty No. 9
I feel it's my civic duty to put this up.
Hopefully it does well, and some other Japanese companies will do this(please Treasure).

Man... that character design is disgusting. Cool to see this happening, but I dunno if I could get over that.

He's no blue bomber, but he looks OK to me. He'll pass is what I'm saying.
IMHO if the community who loves retro style games doesn't help out projects like this, we're doomed to just getting cheap indie and doujin knock-offs for the rest of our lives. Or just play the old games(like I do).

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
playfield looks confusing yet small-scale. I always liked things with a bit more room. But given the developer, it's probably not an issue, or at least so Inafune's bio would like to reassure us.
Don't see the problem with the character design, although I'm sure it'll look more dated than Mega Man when it gets to be as old. Not a big problem, certainly wouldn't call it "disgusting."

Oh, those are all just concept art. None of that is the in-game graphics.

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
"Mighty No. 9" seems like a Cyborg 009, Rockman X9, and "this is the real Mega Man 9" reference all in one.
The lack of physical game is a downer, the visuals are a bit dark, and the character designs are a bit too "new-school cutesy" for my tastes (surprising to see from Kimo Kimo given his history with fighting games). Nevertheless, I'm interested in supporting the game. They definitely have the Rockman music down pat.

<3 big metal feets. Main character looks a bit too spunky for his own good, but at least it's not too EDGY & XTREEM.

LOL! I happened to see that photo in Reuters' link for their list of blurry jet landings and flying handegg players, but that picture was not found. Now I see it's returned in improved form!
He looked more like Karnov in the thumbnail I thought.
I'm sure Pixiv artists are already going nuts over the character.
You know, I just realized that it's not only the character design that reminds me of something you'd expect from the Astro Boy franchise, but the numbering and naming of the "mighty" series as well. The World's Strongest Robots, anyone?

Can't believe the character design is for real. Then again, looking at 3D designs in modern Japanese games, 2D was likely bound to eventually catch the disease.

Dunno, doesn't seem that bad to me. This is an interesting one because Inafune is finally putting his money where his mouth it. I want physical releases, but I'll pay for this just to see if he can actually deliver.drauch wrote:Man... that character design is disgusting.

The character doesn't bother me in the least bit. He's no more or less offensive than any given Megaman design.

Yeah, I'm down with the character and what-not. Just give me a damn physical release on console

I get an 80's Italian exploitation film vibe from the theme music. Reminds me of Bronx Warriors or 2019: After the Fall of New York or something like that. I like it and I'm not one who really cares about video game music.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Hell yeah. That theme is pretty damn awesome. I'll certainly probably play this, and while my comment on the character design may sound a bit extreme, I just feel like it's very... uninspired. Mega Man has always been a pretty cute dude (<3 Mega), but this just looks like Backyard Sports and Di Gi Charat.Octopod wrote:I get an 80's Italian exploitation film vibe from the theme music. Such a game badly needs an eye-catching superstar mascot character. Say what you will about the new Strider, but his red scarf and ninja animations look distinctively.
I believe Galak-Z nailed the 1970-s anime looks at least on the character design level. This here game, though... Well, I already can't remember its name. Mighty No. 9 tells me about as much as P.N.03.

The design looks like an American-made homage of a Japanese game to me. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course. Physical release, plox.

600 000$ in less than a day. This thing is getting its stretch goals and then some.
Those fly down, book lodging (at your own expense) and have dinner and drinks with developer tiers are good for a laugh.
The concept art screenshot reminds me of Astal meets Mega Man.

I'm digging the character design, personally.
Maybe not quite as stand-out iconic as Mega at first glance, but a good design.
Kinda want to throw in the $60 for the box set, but I also kinda wanna wait to see more actual game before I decide to toss in money.

Good goddamn. Gimme this. MM11 in a sorta gay anime style. If they port it to a handheld, I'll likely buy it twice.

Well, the with the name "trap15", I'm guessing you wouldn't understand.

Now, if you were Bailey Jay, I'd say "NOTHING!".

Also, about the character design...Mighty No. 9 looks OKAY in drawings...but in motion he just sort of looks like a gray Mega Man X. So, it's all good really.

Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
I wish they'd emphasize how he's different from Mega Man in motion. I guess we haven't seen Mega Man in 2D with this level of side-view detail though.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Wow, funded in 2 days. Of course we won't know till the mechanics are fleshed out, but I have no reason to believe that it won't be a fun game. I'm seriously considering the $250 pledge...

I hope they meet their stretch goals for a console release. I'm not fond of playing anything other than FPS, adventure and strategy games on a PC, and it would seriously limit the game's Japanese audience if it remained exclusive to the platform.
