Need some advise on this topic, before I talk about it I will say the following:
*I heard all the horror roommate stories.
*No I don't make enough to get a one bedroom with full utilities.
*I don't want to hear more horror stories, I just need some advice.
Most likely by end of October I will start looking on craigslist for renting in a house/apartment or find a roommate for an apartment lease. I'm currently in an apartment with two other roommates that I'm friends with. One of them is leaving by end of the lease (which is end of December), the other will most likely go with her friend once her friend closes on her house. I'm just looking for any good tips on what to look out for when looking for places to live on craigslist.
Where I live in Jax, FL I do notice for people who are renting out bedrooms from their houses they are doing proof of employment, credit check, background check, etc. I have no problem with that since I'll pass all of it with flying colors. One of my friends told me if doing one of those checks to please sign it allowing the landlord to do those checks.
Some of my friends will not do roommates period, other told me they had great luck finding places to live on craigslist.
Any advice you guys can provide?

Re: Looking on Craigslist for Roommates/Room advise
I found a place using roommates.com when I needed to move closer to work. Give it a shot as well. It was free last time I used it.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Re: Looking on Craigslist for Roommates/Room advise
I once was in a rush for a cheap apartment and made the mistake of moving into a 4 bedroom house apartment that had separate leases (and separate locks) on each of the bedrooms. Kitchen and bathroom shared. It was dirt cheap and I figured if one of the roommates dinked out on the rent I wouldn't be liable.
Unfortunately I didn't have a choice as to who took the other 3 rooms. 2 of the roommates were OK, but the 4th (crappiest) room was given to an insane person. Literally insane.
Boy was that a fun year!

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Re: Looking on Craigslist for Roommates/Room advise
try to talk to the people moving out if you're replacing a roommate--they likely know what's up in the house
that being said, i totally almost blindly moved into an apartment with a guy who was looking for a roommate on /v/ and it turned out to be a really good move on my part.
i probably lucked out HARDCORE.
