UFO Interactive Games is primarily a North American publisher. However since focusing on digital distribution they had an smattering of (typically delayed) European releases - though nothing on PSN(SCEE) yet. Maybe it's the additional hosting fees (???-for yet another PSN store), maybe there are additional language requirements - but nevertheless it seems a bit of a waste as they will already have a perfectly good asset to distribute. There is a chance that it could show up on PSN-Europe in the next 6-12 months - but all considered the odds seem pretty slim.

I was a bit surprised to find that you can get a Best Hit Selection for $40 at Play-Asia. It seems odd to finance a "Best Hit Selection" print run considering the reputed low sales numbers.

Ditto, own it for PS3 and would have picked up a physical localization but not a digital.

Right around the corner this Tuesday. Gameplay wise, it looks pretty solid. I think its about time for me to take break from fighters and get my ass handed to me with shmups again lol. How's the hitbox anyway, huge? Couldn't find any info on it in the guide section. thanks.

Hitbox is very small, it looks like a small flame flickering inside them.

How's the translation of story mode? Is it as low-quality as UFO's handling of Elminage?

I think UFO have competent translators. Elminage had pretty decent-to-good writing.

Now, their QA staff...

Seems this is still the case, and I have reason to doubt RSG will ever bring it this way. A real shame.

Don't get the complaints about a non-Euro release. It takes a few minutes to setup a US PSN account and buy a US points card.

Also, probably an old question, but how does the PS3 version compare to the 360 release?

I did a breakdown of the differences with the PS3 version in my ST thread here:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44837

Long story short, the PS3 version is the definitive, best version of the game. Since the US version has the pre-order DLC included off the bat, it's that much better. Only drawback to the PS3 version is game hangs, which have occasionally happened to me in the JP version. Possibly also improved in the US version.

Did they bring the PS3 graphics more in-line with the arcade version graphics? I think I recall someone mentioning when the 360 port was released that the arcade version had better graphics.

Hmm...honestly, my experience with the arcade version is very limited. I've probably played it 3 times, since it's absolutely broken for scoring. So I can't say for sure, but to the extent I have played it I never noticed any appreciable differences.

I can't really imagine anything NAOMI could do graphically that an Xbox360/PS3 couldn't...

I could be mis-remembering. It was either this or one of the Raiden 360 ports where the arcade version had better graphics...

It might be a similar case as the one between Senko no Ronde's arcade and 360 versions. For whatever reason, the arcade version had some animations and graphical effects that weren't included in the 360 port.

Some of those difference are explained here:

That's odd, I'm only slightly familiar with the naomi version (and not at all with xbox) but from videos the xbox version always looked way better graphically. Unless it does in all areas besides some missing effects.

So I'm a sucker and re-re-bought this.

I had to use the search function to get it, as I couldn't seem to navigate to it or see it under new releases.

It's there, under ALL PS3 Games, it's like the 8th or 10tn new release after all the stupid pre-order junk (COD, AC4)...

A fair point. I think it's just a matter of feeling the market here is supported by the genre and visa versa (or not feeling supported in this case!). And really I just want a boxed PAL release!

But yeah, as digital distribution continues in its rise, the relevance or impact of regions and market boarders is dissolving.

So long as the gatekeepers don't region-lock stores, points, etc. anyways.

I just bought this game and I love it! The only thing is that the kokuro castle (I forget the exact name) has got to be the most god awful, annoying, hardest level ever! I managed to clear the netherworld adventure version once, but the story mode version is the bane of my existence!

So it's a Western release that isn't available in most of the West, and isn't available in the biggest gaming market in the West...

...awesome.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.
