Thanks for the scores, guys.
I'd post something for advanced, but none of my high scores are saved. The scores from when my PCB was in an arcade in Japan are still on the board so I would have to get over 14 million just to see my score on the very bottom of the list.
What's crazy is that the top player in advanced achieved his score by playing only the first 3 stages.

10,351,740 - Saber Tiger [A] - Stage 6
I think about half of this score happened in 10 seconds or so on the naval stage, keeping the x64 going with 100,000 medals and extends dropping like crazy. I think I'm close to doing the same on seaside, so I might be able to eventually give Smraedis some competition.
Should have been an all clear, but I made a stupid mistake on Gigamanta's final form.

I lost my medals during stage 3 (Naval - right after the third large battleship near the start of the stage) and had an absolute howler at the Railroad, but rescued the credit enough to take it to Gigamanta's second form.
I'll have to improve in some sections, especially the Cloud bosses. Speaking of which, does the second form of Gigamanta remind anyone of a more angry Glow Squid from Garegga?
And I thought this thread might get mostly ignored. The competition is already getting good.
Yeah, I thought so too. And his first form is like the level 1 boss from Garegga. (i.e. his tail section and two center aimed cannons)Icarus wrote:Speaking of which, does the second form of Gigamanta remind anyone of a more angry Glow Squid from Garegga?
I used to find Bakraid inferior to the other games in Raizing's back catalogue (even Mahou Daisakusen I preferred over Bakraid), mainly because of the way it looked and handled.Rastan78 wrote:And I thought this thread might get mostly ignored. The competition is already getting good.
A fortnight ago I was bored and wanted something to play, so I fired it up and decided to actually give it another chance, and tried to figure out the scoring system. And after that, I got hooked. The scoring system is actually well designed than I first thought, as it gives you a lot of leeway over strategy creation, rewards aggressive play, and forces you to think creatively to maximise scoring potential. I now rate Bakraid over Batrider because of it, but it isn't as high on my faves list as Garegga, Brave Blade or Soukyugurentai... only Ibara can change all that
I'll be posting more here and on the ST thread soon.
Normal Course
Icarus - 14,983,950 - Saber Tiger [C] - ALL
Made a complete hash of the Desert stage again (took a different Stage Edit this time round with Railroad second and Desert fourth), missed the 64x off the large tank and a split second off the 64x on the four large planes in the Seaside stage.
Also dropped at least two Extends in various places, and missed my medals again on the third stage, Naval. In exactly the same place as the 12mil score Managed to build them back up, only to lose them again on the first bomber on the Seaside stage.
I've yet to put in a near decent credit - decent meaning not dying while holding a full bomb (or three), not missing chain timing on key scoring areas, not losing medals and not dropping extends

Advanced Course:
5.831.370 - Stage 6 - Flame Viper
Edit: Thanks to Icarus for the info, so in that case, Flame Viper is [A]
Just wondering, what is [A] and [C]?

Ship reinforce types. You get different powered ships depending on what button you use to select your ship with:SFKhoa wrote:Just wondering, what is [A] and [C]?
[Shot or A button] = makes you ship's standard Shot weapon more powerful, Side weapons upgrade as normal
[Bomb or B button] = makes your Bomb more powerful, at the cost of the other weapon levels
[Option or C button] = makes your Side weapon more powerful (the SIDE weapon, NOT the collectible Options), Shot upgrades as normal
[Start button] = makes your ship oh-so-much-faster, and a lot weedier weapons wise
You'll want to pick one depending on your selected ship. I find Flame Viper [A] a good selection because the homing flame is already very powerful, whereas I beef up Saber Tiger's Side weapons.

Good going everyone. Nice to see some competition going for this very overlooked Raizing shmup
I beat my top score, but only by 500k, and I didn't manage to clear the credit. Several bad mistakes included missing the 64x on Axebeak (only managed a 32x), mistiming a bomb on the three battleships on Naval (and losing a 64x, as well as my medals), dying three times in a row on Desert (once misjudging Bahamut's splash pattern trajectory), and crashing into Tiamat during the Cloud battle :/
Just out of curiousity, but would there be any chance of a Boss Only scoretable? I'm finding the boss attack a fun diversion when Normal/Advanced become frustrating (and it's good practice for the boss battles)...

Taking over the top spots... for now.
Normal Course:
Icarus - 17,206,000 - Saber Tiger [C] - Stage 6
Special (Boss Only) Course:
Icarus - 5,695,370 - Saber Tiger [C] - Stage 6 (Tiamat)
Managed to put some kind of decent scoring run together for the Normal Course, although I missed 64x-ing the large tank in Seaside by a split second, and dropped two Extends also on Seaside due to being caught in the corner by the drones before Balrog. Finally ended my credit crashing into one of the grenade bombers before Gigamanta (with a 32x in the process...)
For Boss Only, 64x-ed Axebeak's cockpit but missed the 64x kill and got 3.2mil. Carried three lives all the way to Cyclops at Stage 4, who took two, then lost the last to Tiamat, who shot me with the central turret from point-blank range, right when I was dodging one of the spreads
I've modified my Axebeak strategy slightly and it's paying good dividends. I used to bomb one wing and shoot out the missile launchers on the other to get up to 32x, then suicide and bomb to overlap the cockpit for 64x on both the cockpit and boss. Now, instead of suiciding and bombing, I use the invincibility from the first bomb on the wing to get alongside the cockpit, and use the Option fire to take out the cockpit, then quickly use the time remaining on my multiplier to get back down the screen, and bomb the boss with the half-bomb for the 64x kill.
Saves one Extend for scoring/emergencies

Wow, nice work!
Something I just noticed on my Bakraid board is that there's a score saved on Boss Only in the 6 million plus range that was scored without even defeating axebeak. Ship used was the Sky Dragon C button type. Wouldn't have thought that was even possible.
Messing around on advanced today I skipped straight to cloud after level one with level select and ended up 1cc'ing all the way. Still not a real completion but nice to know I can finally hang with Vampire and see him bite the dust without continues (with low rank at least).

Normal Course:
Icarus - 22,157,210 - Saber Tiger [C] - Stage 6
I have to modify the 10mil Axebeak strategy to account for the homing missiles that the Saber Tiger fires. Usually I use Shot on both sets of missile launchers to weaken them, and then double Bomb for the 64x'es. However, the Saber Tiger's homing missiles weaken the main body of the boss far too much and it changes to second form before I can take out both wing batteries and the cockpit.
Now, I have to make the stage trip to Axebeak without picking up Side Powerups, relying on Option fire and the charge shot to get my speedkills to release the second Shot powerup before the boss. Also, I have to use Trace Formation to attack the cockpit enough to weaken it.
For this credit, I managed to get the timing for the 10mil Axebeak kill down, although I still need to work on perfecting the bomb timing, so I don't destroy the wing batteries with the bomb blast by accident. Some very messy chaining throughout Naval, Desert and Seaside, coupled with crashing into the last pair of gunships before Gigamanta (just as I unknowingly cross the point limit for an Extend) capped off a pretty up-and-down run.
Thankfully, it's my day off work today, so I can spend the whole day working on Normal Course, and Axebeak strategy
