That Rabbit in Gokujyou Parodius - Possible Inspirations

Post by Master O »

I think I might've found some of the video game inspirations for the boss from the Japan-themed level in Gokujyou Parodius:

http://youtu.be/prniausqvz0?t=5m6s <--- Namco's "Genpei Toumaden" final boss (not a shmup)

http://youtu.be/1bLDK-b-ll8?t=20m11s <--- Gokujou Parodius rabbit boss

http://youtu.be/IpVS5MQVs5U?t=8m19s <--- Taito's "Chuuka Taisen" (Look at the attack pattern).

The links below are also worth noting:

Interesting. I notice that Parodius Da has a stage based on the Buddhist hell, which of course is also the setting of Genpei Toumaden.

The boss is princess Kaguya from the japanese folktale Taketori Monogatari. Another widespread folklore is, that the moon is inhabited by a rabbit.

Since the level is located on the moon, it makes perfect sense to combine them.
