So until this mystical HDMI NES comes out I've been using composite via the Framemeister annoyingly it only outputs mono, is there any way to get the sound to come from both channels?

Outside of a simple Y-splitter cable, there are hardware mods that can be done to give a pseudo-stereo effect (splits square & triangle to one channel and everything else to the other - adjustable via knob to control how much seperation). Here.

Also I remember a little while back someone was wondering what kind of games have the issue where it switches from 240p to 480i and it takes forever.
Add Super Smash Bros. to the list.

Wait, isn't every game affected that does this?

Right. I suspect they're referring more to a list of which games do switch modes like this.

Oh, in this case: I know a plethora of titles that do switch modes, some more, some less annoying.
One special case would be Vagrant Story (PSone): The intro video (240p) and the menu screen (480i) are designed to blend into each other seamlessly. As long as the Framemeister doesn't offer an override option where 240p signals are treated like 480i, this "effect" will never work.

Funny that with my modded PAL PSX, Framemeister often continues thinking it's receiving 240p after a PSX game changes mode from 240p to 480i, even though the output blanks momentarily. At least this results to proper Bob "deinterlace" without the 1-frame added latency. I can get Framemeister to treat it correctly as 480i if I change input back and forth, but I wonder why this is happening only with PSX. Perhaps I should try using csync as sync.

It would be awesome if they could make the Framemeister see everything that's 480i as 240p. Not just for those games that switch between the two modes, but also for games like the shitty Metal Slug ports on the PS2. A 480p to 240p would also be great when using the Gameboy Player on the Gamecube.

I'd love this too, I wonder if it's possible or if the hardware isn't capable of it. In fact, that'd be my number one feature request I think, only real issue I have with it at the moment.

Is there any way to completely factory reset a Framemeister?

All of a sudden out of the blue it's having a hard time syncing up to my consolized MVS system (Omega unit).

Was working fine a couple days ago. Now the picture bounces up and down and periodically blanks out.

Adjusting the sync level has no effect on it.

However my SNES and rgb modded DUO-R are syncing up just fine.

If I connect my Omega CMVS up to my Sony PVM, no issues whatsoever.

This is not good news. Knock on wood this doesn't happen to my set-up.

Does going to Options --> Reset not restore defaults for you? You could always try reinstalling the firmware as well.

Hey Jim

While that does appear to reset it, it doesn't fix it.

:(

edit: Problem resolved. Turns out it wasn't the Framemeister or the Omega.

It was a recently purchased Ouya (which sits maybe 12 inches from the Omega) causing some sort of radio interference with the Omega. Unplugged the Ouya and all is well.

I'm curious about this too, was it causing interference just being powered on/idle or was it connected to the mini somehow?

It wasn't connected to the mini in any fashion.

It was simply powered on.

I didn't bother to check and see if it caused the same issue when it was powered off. I will check that tonight.

If you can, let us know how close it was too. Who knows, maybe the mini is prone to interference and that could be the cause of some people's issues on occasion.

Doubt it. I've had my XRGB-mini placed on top of AV receivers, CD-Players, scalers and a center speaker without any problems whatsoever :)

That was my thought, but I wonder how else it interfered?

Change of impendance caused by a ground loop through the HDMI cables.

Hi again,

I'd like to buy a Framemeister to use with my Sega Saturns on a Plasma TV. I have quite a few models (PAL, US & JAP), and I always use the same cable for all of them, so I couldn't tell if this cable is a RGB JAP, US or European Scart since it works on every system. Is there a way to find out? I attach some pictures:

As far as I know, if this cable was European, I would need a converter to use it with the Framemeister. I've found these two options:

http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/mico ... ipper.html

http://www.retrogamingcables.com/europe ... -sale.html

Which one would you recommend me?

Thank you in advance!!

That's a European SCART cable. Looks like an original SEGA one as well, but I haven't had mine opened for years, so I could be wrong. If it is you should get slightly better PQ than using a cheap 3rd party cable instead. I compared years ago against a cable I got from Liksang.

My advice is that you shouldn't use both Japanese RGB21 and European SCART cables for your consoles. Only use one type. That way you are sure you're not accidentally plugging a SCART cable straight into the XRGB if you forget what kind it is.

I have heard some pretty bad things about retrogamingcables.com, wires that were soldered badly and fell of, switched L and R-audio, and not a week ago I had to resolder one of their SCART to BNC adapters, for a friend of mine, because it was shielded in a weird way :( Soldering was nice enough on this cable though

If you know someone who has a little experience with a soldering iron it's very easy to resolder the included adapter for SCART cables instead.

yes, looks like the original Sega one. The cable without video GND connected. Always causes problems because of this. No matter what adapter you get, you have to make sure that GND connects, otherwise you'll end up with no picture. My advice would be to move the audio ground (pin 4) to Pin 18 or 19 instead.....

I have the exact same cable. The RGB and video status voltages originate from the 9V pin, which is csync in US/JAP consoles. If you are using Mini, this doesn't matter since it doesn't require RGB status, but the cable doesn't work if you try to hook a NTSC Saturn to a TV directly, unless you can force it into RGB mode.

It's good to know this is a European Scart cable.
I don't know anyone who can modify the original cable included with the mini for me so, for now, I will have a go with one of the retrogamingcables.com's adapters (despite of the bad comments...).

Thank you all for your answers!

I just noticed a very weird problem on my NTSC/US setup. I wanted to play some Yoshi's Island, and when I started it up, the beginning scene was jumping up and down like crazy (the intro where the stork is carrying baby Mario and children's music is playing, before the title screen). So yeah...the picture is jumping up and down like mad. This is on the XRGB Mini; it does not do this when I go straight to the TV via composite, so I think it's the XRGB's fault. However, the rest of Yoshi's Island plays fine. Does anyone know what could be going on?

Just received my Framemeister mini today and am generally very impressed, but the need for stored presets came quickly :)

I have a bit of a weird issue though. The video output through the mini from my PS1 has 2 darker lines (scaling/scanline errors) and the status shows input to be 241p. I'm assuming that's not normal behavior? Saturn and Mega Drive work correctly and show 240p.

The mini came with 1.08.
