Superguns in 2013
Superguns in 2013
Hey guys. I been thinking about getting a supergun but I just need to know what's going on for 2013:
With people using superguns are more and more people using LCD monitors?
People are still seeking out the XRGB2 for working with just about all PCBs?
My ideal supergun is a four button layout with +5v adjustable, -5v support, Seimitsu joystick/buttons and other useful stuff. With all the advancement of upscalers and such I'm wondering if it benefited Superguns for LCDs.

XRGB-2 is a strict linedoubler. If you connect a PCB with a non standard refresh rate (54Hz Seibu or Midway) the VGA output will be non-standard as well and your LCD will likely not support it.

Oh Video God, pretty much if using a Supergun setup you need a CRT pretty much? So even in 2013 still no good way for Superguns on LCD?Fudoh wrote:http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44069

Re: Superguns in 2013
for certain PCBs (and if you want to avoid a framerate conversion), then yes. But those few games aside, RGB's supergun is as good as it gets.
Re: Superguns in 2013
Let me get this out of the way: If doing the supergun route I would like to get various shmups from the 80s-90s. No Sebiu games since they piss me off after a little while, tons of Toaplans/Capcoms/NMK. No fighting games.Fudoh wrote:for certain PCBs (and if you want to avoid a framerate conversion), then yes. Tell me the downside of a framerate conversion. I heard for some PCBs crazy things can happen if converting close to 60hz.
Only problem with RGB's supergun is that isn't for sale. In matter of fact it's sold. :p
Re: Superguns in 2013
Get MAME and check the specs of your favorite PCBs. Another problematic board is the M72 (etc) series by Irem which includes R-Type 1 and 2.
A framerate conversion can introduce studder.
RGB does superguns on request - if you ask nicely and if he got the time right now.

I see, let me snoop around.Fudoh wrote:Get MAME and check the specs of your favorite PCBs. Another problematic board is the M72 (etc) series by Irem which includes R-Type 1 and 2.

Re: Superguns in 2013
Oh yeah, if anyone has another other experiences with their superguns I would appreciate it!
Re: Superguns in 2013
not the right question. A supergun is usually just an interface to get the RGB signal from the PCB onto your monitor or TV. You're basically asking for certain PCB/monitor combinations....

Yeah, actually you got a point. I'm looking for the highest compatibility as I possible can.Fudoh wrote:not the right question. A supergun is usually just an interface to get the RGB signal from the PCB onto your monitor or TV. You're basically asking for certain PCB/monitor combinations....

Hey there Domino.
RGB made me a supergun last year, and it is pretty great. I have it hooked up to my xrgb-mini, and everything looks awesome on my LCD. Maybe getting a plasma soon, and I expect it will look incredible there as well.
He's a great dude, and will customize the supergun for any request you throw at him.
