Finally managed to die less than 5 times in a SDOJ Stage 5 run starting from the midbosses. Cool.

This game is extremely difficult i mean, what the fuck. I still stand no chance against Stage 5 and i think I'm approaching the 10 hour mark. Geez.

Have come up with and written in exact detail a total of 8 awesome shmup ideas.

I hope they prove useful later.

I think I might have been there at the time... I did see one guy 2-ALL Strikers 1999 with a score of 3 million, while the guy next to him was on the 2nd loop of Progear (although I don't think he cleared it).

Oh! Cool!
I was the guy in the grey "Frisco" tank top. Will probably head by a short bit before leaving Kyoto today.
The guy who 2alled 1999 and so on is one of the upncoming Ketsui players.
He's cleared Ura and scored somewhere over 500 i think.

Thanks everybody for all the kind words. :)

Just on a whim, I decided to play a bit of Twin Cobra II, mostly for survival. Imagine my surprise when I managed to 1CC it right then and there! It was a terrible, bomb-wasting play though.

Still a fun game. I'd imagine holding on to all of those bombs to really rack up your score must be intense!

Ha ha, that brings my 1CC total up to three!

(or four, if you count Syvalion)

I guess Triggerheart Exelica is not exactly the hardest game in the world... I managed to get a crap True Ending 1CC after having only played it for a couple of hours. Pretty fun game though!

Congrats!

Exelica's True ending on normal auto-off was the first 1cc I ever did and it took me a very long time to do it. I think its a decently hard game. It's certainly not easy, and I learned a lot about shmups from the process.

Thanks. Yeah, it has certain sections that can be a bit tricky until you've figured them out. I also think that I dropped like 4 bombs on the Stage 4 boss, haha.

You're absolutely right that your first 1CC takes a long time. Mine was Hellfire and it took me almost a year of obsessive play to get a 1CC on the MD port on Easy :/ Granted, I was still pretty young at the time (I got it some time during the mid 90's) but still...

1cc'd 19xx today. Surprisingly easy, probably only put ~12 credits into it for the clear. Learning the two 1up locations (st3 and st5) made it even quicker. I didn't use autofire, though I got S rank and 100% on a few stages. I used Mosquito. I really like the lock-on shot and importance of aiming/timing in this game.

Congrats Blackoak, 19XX is one of my favorites but the final boss wrecks me. Bravo on kicking it's butt, and I completely agree - the homing missile beacon system is brilliant! One question, did you ever use the charge bomb? I have not found any particularly good areas where it made sense to use.

I cleared the first loop of Gradius for the first time today :D I'm terrible at Konami games, and the Gradius series in general. Playing the Saturn port on normal difficulty. Then I gave Gradius 2 a whirl and got demolished

Thanks, its definitely a good shmup for learning. Lots of "dead space", even on bosses, and not too much that feels non-sight dodgeable. The spread shot plane Mosquito actually has a pretty good speed too for most patterns. The final boss was a little hard with him, but the game gives you so many bombs...

The charge bomb is actually crucial imo, for survival at least. Using it gives you double the bullet cancelling, and its stronger at level 3 (maxing it doesnt do any more damage to my knowledge, it just gives you more timing options).

I looped the Genesis version of Fire Shark!!!

Great port of a great game.

Had some pretty kickass recoveries too, including a particularly impressive one at stage 7 (the one where enemies start coming from behind - tough with the limited play area of the Genesis port) and several instances where I managed to survive picking up the green weapon.

Protip: don't pick up the green weapon

I finally beat Espgaluda without using Kakusei (I purposefully didn't get the 1up in Stage 3 and without kakusei your score is way too low to get the second scoring extend in a 1cc). Silly death at the Alices right before the second energy item, and once during the final boss phase which was extremely silly, but otherwise I was quite happy with this run. Tateha makes this pretty easy as she's got spread, the stronger laser, and the thin center beam is lined up with her hitbox, making it easy to visually line yourself up. Took me a week or two of playing, most credits ended stupidly dying while hoarding my bombs, I was much more proactive about using 'em this run, though I did pull off one particularly risky dodge at the turret section near the end of 5-1 that saved me some bomb gauge.

also i was typing this as the credits rolled and forgot to enter my initials, lol

Nice job! Well done! I have to say I'm pretty jealous of this...I just can't beat the final boss pattern and feels like I've been trying forever! The rest of the game is no problem...I've never tried using tateha, might have to give this another try soon.

The final boss pattern is largely overrated in difficulty. Once you're used to weaving through the large bullets (they cover a lot of your sprite but have just as small a hitbox as any other bullet!) it's a lot easier. The bullets are all quite slow moving, and the gaps are larger than they look. Honestly, I can sometimes no miss no bomb it, whereas the pattern right before with its HOLY FUCK OVERLAPPING GALORE always eats a charged bomb or a life for me.

Video'll be up here, assuming the upload doesn't crash again or I have a power outage (I woke up to a failed video upload and my browser closed :| ).

I'd also suggest staying in the bottom part of the screen. You'll be surprised how easy it gets once you've dodged it a couple of times.
I generally have to use a bit of kakusei toward the end when it gets hectic but I no miss it often.

That penultimate attack though... :(

Okay, Dodonpachi Saidaioujou Arcade cleared. Used A-S. Type A for life. Sorry Hikari-chan, get a better ship next time. Maybe i'll get a clear with B-L when i have made the money for the replacement for my 360 pad. I suck at pads.

I'm truly baffled that I managed to clear this game. Yeah, i had practiced it for about 8-10 hours + some more time watching a lot of replays (meaning its still twice as hard as Ketsui 1-all was for me) beforehand but I still did it in my first credit ever so it was literally achievement rain for me :D

Will post my score over in the relevant thread. I guess now i only really have EspGaluda II to go. Will clear that some other time I guess.

2 looped GameBoy Vattle Giuce while sitting in the sunny communal gardens and sipping an ice latte. Could have 3 looped it but got bored and turned it off. Have a feeling it just repeats endlessly.

Well, GBA. ;)

I guarantee you it was easier than your SDOJ Arcade clear!
