Mechwarrior Online

Post by Leader Bee »

OK so i've not been on the forums in some time and my search abilities suck (or the forums search abilities are inherantly crap). I was wondering if ANYONE has brought up the subject of MWO and it's giant stompy robot goodness? Because if there's one thing anime nerds and gamer geeks need its more giant stompy robot simulators.

Somehow they fell out of fashion along with space combat simulators and other similarly complex PC games of the mid 90's. Although MWO is far less simulator-y than MS flight sim X for example it still feels much less like a prototypical FPS and has a more slow paced strategic feel to it, very much unlike Hawken.

I would love it if some of the Denizens of this forum played it because even though I have a bunch of clanmates on ventrilo they all tend to play either World of Tanks or ARMA 2, which is fine because they are good games as well but I need my giant stompy robot fix god dammit.

Enough of us play and it might be ideal to have our own vent server????

I've been playing on and off for a few months now. I enjoy the slower pace, and it's a lot of fun to play with in a group on TS. The game just changes so much that it's difficult for me to keep up. Much more of a sniping game now, and jetpacks seem to be spammed a lot in the matches I've played.

We used to roll as a hunchback wolfpack and devour teams in minutes, but lately the hunchback seems underpowered so I need to relearn some new mechs. I suppose the learning curve is something that will always keep the game out of reach for a larger audience, but it's worth checking out simply because there isn't any other game like it.

Dropped it the second they removed repair/rearm cost. It's Mechwarrior, that's like taking the tires out of Gran Turismo.

I suspect that repair and rearm costs will be re-introduced once it is out of open beta. It seems somewhat strange that it would not be included. insofar as jetpack snipers - poptarts - a recent patch mitigated this somewhat by adding hud and camera shake when jump jets are used. Certainly there are things that need to be included and tweaked if there is to be a long term goal for players and I would certainly like to see further game modes and maps.

Aren't Western mecha style purists resentful of post-Activision MechWarrior games? Too "lightweight" for their liking, reportedly.
