Liberated by PS2 sale.

Post by sjewkestheloon »

OK i've always been one to try and hold onto games as i buy them and i'd managed to build up a good collectiong of ps2 games, including many domestic pal shmups, and i've sold the lot. now instead of a ps2 and big games library i have a ps1 with a psxchange disk for some possible importing and a few choice games and i feel like i'm yhaveing fun playing games again.

i know reading that seems kind of a wierd thing to say but when i hear of people with huge game collections i always drool with desire but it's a bit silly as i was spending more time looking at what i have than actually playing anything, and even then it was only for two minute blasts until i swapped again.

i now intend to rotate between g darius, raiden project, strikers 1945 II and raystorm, with an occasional rpg, for the next few months exclusively without buying up anything and everything that appears cheap.

anyone else done anything like this?

oh and i had change left over for an mp3 player so i'm boppin pimp style now 8)

I know people who have, and I myself have done similar things. Of course, it's pointless. Todays generation machine that you own now, is tomorrows old console that saves you from buying a new one. You'll end up with another PS2 eventually, probably pay more than you sold this one (at a loss) for, and end up back where you were ;-) Collection-culling makes sense in some places, losing the console really doesn't.

Yesterday I bought back an arcade machine I sold a year ago.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. I've purged my collection of most, but not all non-shmups. But I cannot part with a console.

Excellent choice. I'm looking to get a PS1 and to focus on my PS1 collection pretty exclusively in the near future. I know it makes no sense at all, but right now I feel like there's something wrong with playing my PS1 games on a PS2. One suggestion: Raiden DX is a slight upgrade over Raiden Project: you might want to look into that.

This pretty much sums up how I feel. With a few exceptions I almost alway regret selling off enjoyable games in my collection. There have been quite a few instances when I just ended up rebuying most of them.

Emulation solves alot of problems in terms of space when it comes to older systems.

Yeah, I know the actual thing is better and emulation is supposed to be ILLEGAL, but who cares? It's much easier to fire up a ROM then it is to pull old a dusty console buried under all that junk in the closet.

I've been selling stuff off too because I needed the money and because console games don't interest me anymore.

I got rid of my Sega Genesis many years ago to a kid in school. Years later I receive a Genesis for my brithday (only a month ago). Now I know the best Genesis games that I enjoy thru emulation, and now looking to buy those games (I purchase TF III not too long ago).

Please note that bootdiscs don't play Redbook audio (which will crash some games as they keep trying to boot up the audio). It would be best to get a JP or modded PS.

i know that this is probably the wrong place to ask but can anyone provide me with a list of shmups that don't work with the psxchange disk?

as for the repurchase of a ps2 later, you are correct. i will definately be picking one up later but most likely it'll be when i have a much larger amount of disposable income and even then i'm almost 100% sure it'll be a jap model. so many good shmups i only can play in mame...

as for raiden dx can someone please explain what rtelationship it actually has to the raiden project? i don't seem to be able to find any info at all.

Raiden project = Raiden 1 & 2
Raiden DX = Raiden DX (Raiden 2 'champion edition' so to speak if that means anything to you, no you can't play with the bosses damnit)

I suggest Raiden DX.

Well~well, to my personal experiance, I have sold shmup games I tought I don't want anymore and then bought them back later. For example:

1943
Shippu Mahou Daisakusen
Battle Garegga
Mars Matrix
Gigawing 2
Psyvariar ~Medium Unit~

So I would say, unless you quit playing shumps :x , I would bet on you would bought them back the shmup titles you sold today in the furture.

I would now think twice before I sold any shmup titles nowadays.

Wait!! Should I bought back the DC Chaos Field and the PS1 Shienryu I sold some days ago?!?! :? May be I should get the Saturn Shienryu instead.
*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*

I purged my collection to get a cabinet and sometimes I regret selling the stuff, but I know it was pointless to have all that shit. I never played most of the stuff or already played them to death, some shit just sat wasted in my closet, others just sat on a shelf gathering dust. Sometimes I get urges to play some games I used to own (mars matrix, layer section, einhander) but to me, pulling out a game once or twice a year to play for a half hour doesn't compensate for the clutter.
Feedback will set you free.

again prof ganson i'm in your debt. a fascinating piece of writing that supported my view of Edge well :)

but seriously raiden dx looks essential. has it ever had a pal release? i may have to browse for it,a nd if not, maybe it could be a birthday present next month (yay)

just a note also to say how much i'm enjoying playing g darius. i'd played gaiden before and found it a little messy and although g darius has its moments, the gradual difficulty increase presented by the multi routes makes it a constant interesting experience.

Nope, DX is JPN only.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
