Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
I didn't see any discussion about that here. The only discussion I saw was just assumptions, but that was before Sony said anything about the PS4's region status.Friendly wrote:Why? This quote which we already discussed 3 months ago doesn't say it is.
A similar yet different quote was posted in this thread (in Japanese without translation), but it was never discussed by anyone. I figured you, of all people, would be up in arms about it. You certainly seemed up in arms when MS gave an equally vague reply regarding the Xbox One's region status.

Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll be quite upset if Sony region-locks PS4, but for now we still don't know. Neither PSP, PS3 nor PS Vita (which is still relatively new) are region locked, which is why there still is some hope left. On the other hand, there was nothing vague about Microsoft's staments regarding region locking, and considering that Xbox and Xbox 360 are also region-locked, it wasn't very surprising.

I don't consider either comment to be very clear.Friendly wrote:Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll be quite upset if Sony region-locks PS4, but for now we still don't know. Sony's comments on it so far strongly imply that the PS4 will have some degree of region restriction. If the PS4 were truly region free, you'd think that Sony would have said so by now, instead of basically saying "we aren't ready to tell you right now, we'll tell you later" and "we'd tell you, but we aren't prepared for the potentially bad PR".
Microsoft's comments strongly imply that as well for the Xbox One.
The only thing that's really unknown right now is how far those restrictions go.

It's rather remarkable the XBoner's abbreviation has become canonical so fast.
Methinks... there was someone who didn't see it coming, and dozens who did.
"Sir, the scientists in sector-7G project a 74% probability that people will call our new console the "Xbone" after our initial announcement."
"Clear out your desk Johnson, you're liquidated."
And then they have a pit somewhere where they liquidate Johnsons.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

If I need to ban you two again it will not be a mere two-week thing. Now back on topic, and stay on it.

It is getting boring though. I can't believe the guy gets away with cutting and pasting press releases on at least half his posts. How much more blatant does someone have to be? On topic: fuck XB0.

wouldn't it be awkward if all the shooter devs went with XBone like they did with 360.

Well there are a bunch of softwares on the 360 that kind of resemble the shooting games we know and love, but only in the most superficial way possibleRob wrote:Shooter games are still being made?stryc9 wrote:wouldn't it be awkward if all the shooter devs went with XBone like they did with 360.

The last real STG came out in the early norties as far as I recall.

Well, not the end of the debates I was expecting, but it's good to have some nice news for a change!
You could pretty much buy a PS4 just for this and call it a day. Don't need nothin' else.

Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
Just need to know about the region locking. Come on Sony, make it just like the PS3, don't bend to the demands of big publishers, because if you play your cards right they won't /be/ big publishers anymore if they don't back this system.

I'm sure E3 will finally shed some light on all this stuff.
Also, anyone else is thinking that the next gen consoles are looking boring? I hope SONY can sparkle some style and colors on the PS4.

As much as I wish that info were true, there's no actual source for it, so the details are nothing but rumors at this point. The available trademark information for it only confirms that it belongs to Sony/SCE and nothing else.
Guess we'll find out what it is at E3.

Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
Wouldn't it be absolutely beautiful if EA's backing of Xbone saw them sunk at the same time? There would be some real poetry in that: huge losses after backing the always online DRM 'future' they sought to pioneer, and then humbly come crawling back to PS4 waving a white flag reading "Sports, anyone?"system11 wrote:Just need to know about the region locking. Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
There's the $1,000,000 question. Hopefully Persona 4 Arena did not start a trend. It should be the same way as PS3- where publishers would have to query the system's model number. If it's that way, then there should be a sunset date on region locks.system11 wrote:Just need to know about the region locking. The US dollar is not so weak against the yen now (98 JPY to $1). A year ago it was around 80:1. There goes that excuse for region-locking.

Re: PS4 - No Forced Online, No System-Wide Used Game DRM
yeah, lets face it - the Xbone and PS4 are going to get smoked by most PCs, though some architectural differences and the fact most PC games are built to a certain midlevel spec is going to make the difference look slighter for a bit."We will kill Sony at E3 2013". Sure, M$. With yesterday's DDR3 RAM, and only 5GB of it available vs. PS4's 7GB GDDR5? Get real. Xbone Zucks... yup, it's the next Zune. I think many PCs out there ATM smoke the Xbone already.
But yeah - i expect the next -laptop- i buy to be more powerful than either unless one of them is an architectural miracle.

"Frito-Lay teams up Dew and Doritos with Xbox One - #getyourowndisc"
Frito-Lay definitely know all about DRM - they've been advertising Ruffles since 1992 with "Get Your Own Bag." Man, somebody should # that on twitter.
man, I remember wanting one of those Dew Xbox 1 consoles back when...in fact I still do. Dew is nasty cancer juice though (but so is all soda).

Re: Xbone: It's Official: No More Game Ownership
Well that was a relief. I was worried that MS would have some exciting system exclusives, but it was just gritty military shooters and 'social' content creation toys. It's a good thing I'm burnt out on military shooters and never liked Dead Rising. And £429? Seriously? I'm glad Microsoft are making it easy for me not to want the XBone so far; with the total lack of backwards compatibility for the next gen I'm running out of storage space for consoles.

Re: Xbone: It's Official: No More Game Ownership
Didn't they say the Panzer Dragoon game was an exclusive? I can't remember...
I liked Dead Rising 2 but what they showed of 3 looks like it loses all of the charm.
