Memorable Moments in Games(Contains Spoilers)

Post by IlMrm »

There are moments in games that you will remember because either they are cool, unexpected, etc...

For me:

-Aeris's death in FF7.

-In Metal Gear when you fight hand to hand atop Metal Gear.

-In the end of Breath of Fire 1 when your character walks against the sunset, and your sister's face is in the background. Very cool.

-When the zombie dog jumped through the window in Resident Evil the first time.

-When you turn into Lynx in Chrono Cross.

-Seeing Mushi's Ultra mode.

For me:

-The ending of Planescape Torment. Truly a cool experience
-Beating Halo for the first time and getting the "Dust and echos" speech
-Sleeping my way to the top in Fallout 2. Playing as a chick can sometimes be disturbing....
-Putting the smackdown on that gigantic cruiser in the first Freespace. I was dodging fighters like crazy while my squad mates died horrific deaths...all to get that last reactor.
-Jon Irenicus giving that "Life is strength" speech in Baldur's Gate 2. Truly an evil man.

Halo when you first approach the flood - all that tension and cool aliens-style cut scenes, quality stuff - of course then this silly popcorn stuff starts farting out of the walls and kinda ruins the atmosphere a touch

And playing super mario for the first time and being blown away by the graphics and game play

Playing the Out Run coin-op for the first time. A nigh-on perfect gaming experience and something that has never been bettered for me.

The very first GTA - all that (for the time mind) freedom, combined with an even then unfashionable top-down 'retro' persepctive - this was pretty much the game I'd been hoping for for years.

I'd agree with Resi 1, easy to scoff at now but a stunning experience at the time.

And first time I set eyes on F-Zero, probably the most impressive visuals I'd ever seen on a home system up to that point.

1 - The first time I 1cc'd Virtua Fighter 3tb. Dural can be quite a difficult opponent, and had previously defeated me hundreds of times. But finally I got her.

2 - Pretty much everything about Space Channel 5 Part 2. The boss fights, the singing, Michael Jackson... I think there may be no Dreamcast game I love more.

3 - Those digital butterfies at the end of Rez were quite touching.

4 - Getting a letter from my "mom" in Animal Crossing

5 - The final moments of Radiant Silvergun - no more weapons. Now just try and survive.

6 - Kay scolding me (the player) for choosing to go to India instead of straight to Moscow in Maken X.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

1. The big ship coming out of the water in the Strite level in Thunder Force IV.

2. Fighting Two Face in level 2-1 in Adventures of Batman & Robin (Mega Drive).

3. Chrono stepping on the teleporter to rescue Marle.

5. Approaching Vulcanon's shrine in Shining Force II.

6. Intro of Rayman 2.

7. Jumping high enough (level 1) in Ecco the Dolphin. That sound! The loneliness when he falls back into the water. Unforgettable!
May we speak the beauty of thee, O Earth, that is in thy villages and forests and assemblies and war and battles.

Here are a few I can recall:

-Entering the gates of Stormwind for the first time in World of Warcraft.
-The intro to SoulCalibur on the Dreamcast. The first time I can recall a console game that truly overshadowed its arcade counterpart.
-The giant battleship fight in 1-3 of Raiden Fighters.
-Beating Super Mario 2 for the first time.
-Reaching Lost in the Zone (the Wizard Mode) in Twilight Zone pinball for the first time

The afternoon that NiGHTS clicked with me may have been the high point in my gaming life. But since that was only last year, let me think of some others.

Like Marc, the first time I saw F-Zero I was floored. That cool futuristic music, fast racing for the time, and hey, it was one of the first games on a console I was TOTALLY hyped about in a way only a 7-year old can be. The same was true for its sequel.

1CCing DoDonPachi was cool all 7 times I did it 8)

Not an actual gaming moment, but the first time I heard the theme song to Katamari Damashii was another good one. I was laughing like mad.

Meeting the Master in Fallout and who can forget Dogmeat!!

(Not in game but reading the true reason for the vaults via the Fallout Bible)

Dogs breaking through the windows in Resident Evil.

Planescape Torment-when you have a conversation with the wall.

Planescape Torment-unlocking the Circle of Zerthimon with Dak'kon.

Fighting Metal Sonic- cant remember which title

Seeing M.Bison for the first time/discarding his cape- Street Fighter 2

Breaking through Magie Chow's apartment window and jumping straight into the opposite apartents window. While MJ12 and Chow are left behind.

First time I saw:
-Pong
-Space Invaders
-Donkey Kong
-Defender
In each case I was confronted with something totally unexpected. I'm glad I was there when these games first came out.

Getting the A ending in Clock Tower 2 and feeling stupider for having seen it. :x [I didn't bother to find the rest of the endings I was missing.]

I will echo mrMagenta a bit and add the ending to GK3... that had the biggest impact on me of any scene in any of the Gabriel Knight games :o

Damn. Uh...

When I beat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. Took me like...3 tries. Damn, he was easy!

When I 1CC'd the first level of Metal Slug X.

Hell, I don't know if this counts, but when I found Bisqwit's site.
The radio said, "No, John. You are the demons."
And then, John was a zombie.

- Beating Rugal for the first round in KOF'94, then having him come back and fight for real in the second. After getting whomped several times by the second form, I shut him down using King and throwing slow Venom Strikes (with Rugal hilariously mistiming his projectile reflect shield).

- The fight with Death Adder in Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder. He doesn't seem to give up so easily this time.

- Getting first place on all five tracks on a course in Power Drift and seeing the car turn into an After Burner F-14 or a Hang-On motorcycle.

- Fighting Geegus in World Heroes and seeing him transform into the other characters and using their moves.

- Getting hooked up with the Thunder Sword in Thunder Force IV, then cutting loose with it for the first time in stage 6.

- Playing Raiden Project on PS1. This is the first instance of something being "arcade perfect" that I can think of.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

May sound generic, but Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. After the first boss, things started picking up real good...without a doubt, the greatest gaming experience in my life. I even burned the start and finishing dates in my head: Dec. 25, 1998 to February 23, 1999. Everyday I came from school I played that game for a long, long time.

I cried hard at the ending, too. I was like a woman, a crying woman. Oh the tears of great Zelda!

Oddly enough, OOT is the only Zelda game I liked. And loved.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the fifth boss of Thunder Force V. When you find out the Vasteel Original/Rynex from TF 4 is about to kick your ass with that ominous dragonfly-looking armor. And then you proceed to Over-Weapon it's metallic ass back.

Man, there are so many memorable moments in games for me. I'll try to list what I can remember at the moment...

-Finding out how great it is to control Mario in 3D in Super Mario 64
-The whole game of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-Finding out how hard Indalecio was on Universe difficulty level in Star Ocean: The Second Story
-Crono sacrificing his life in Chrono Trigger
-Aeris' death and the ending in Final Fantasy VII
-When Kefka went bat-shit insane and ruined the world and the climatic battle against Kefka in Final Fantasy III

I know I have lots, but that's what I can remember right now. :)

Heres a few of mine

Panzer dragoon saga, basically all of it however the guardian dragon fight from panzer zwei in it still makes me feel great especially the music, have a disc 2 level 18 save file just so i can relive it every now and then.

Tf 5

Human road level music, great stage and atmosphere, if only the floor was gone for some of it and you flew against the background city would be my fav stage ever.

Tf4

Stage 10 killing that super robot with the giant cannon then meeting the real boss, chasing it down then forcing it to fight.

Shining force 3 (1-3)

Finally beating the whole dam game after 6 years of waiting, then to here Galm and elise talking at the end about how his master plan to rule alone worked out perfectly after over 10 years of planing and killing julians father on purpose. (Knew galm could've killed bulzome easy)

Shining force 2

Seeing King Galam kill your team at the end then Lemon taking him back to hell since he was imortal, then Volcanon resurecting everyone! perfect ending.

Virtua fighter 2

Beating ranking mode and seeing dural turn into kages mother.

Virtua fighter 4 evolution

Soo many great memories came back and it was much better than 3.

Grandia 2

Melfice fight and the whole dance with me one last time in the fight, so cool.

Skies of arcadia

Damn such a good story probably enriques uncle sacrificing himself to stop glacian from killing you. + the silvites in space stage wow.

Streets of rage 2

Siva fight at the end, It just feels wrong to use special moves out of respect, he only has 2-3 stars but hes so dam hard ''Final Crash''

Chrono trigger

Great game, Lavos cutscene and the time manipulation, so good.

Gradius V

Playing for the first type in type 2 fighting stage 2 boss in 4 parts wow that was good, then the nice music acompanying it.

Nights

Twin seeds stage were you fly as either of the kids to free nights then kick wiseman together. Jumping over the edge with the creepy music you think you've killed them.

Sonic Adventure

!st dreamcats game and favourite, the set pieces were so good, killer whale giant stage 8 snake, twinkle park race.

Contra the hard corps

Whole game!, stage 6 water ski stage then fighting the triple transformer dude takedada. + chasing the doomsday misslie while strapped to another!

Phantasy star online ver 2

The battle and challenge mode stages working in teams with people online was so new to me, still wish i could play it.

Loads more but I've a report to type.

Beating Wizardry 2 was pretty satisfying. By the end of the game I had dozens of pages of maps I had drawn. Most of which I had redrawn several times because they were wrong.

The Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2 has lots of good moments.

I'd say the ending in both games are the hightes points in both.

Out of This World. The whole game. That's an experience EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD should have someday. There is NOTHING like this game.

The ending of Firehawk:Thexder 2 was very climatic, with you running away from the exploding base and all stuff... maybe I was easily impressed back at that time, but I have the ending of this game very clear in my mind, after like what... 15 years ?

Finishing Astro Marine Corps. That was the first spanish game I finished without cheating, and for ME PERSONALLY, to finish it is a big moment of gaming in MY LIFE.

Reaching E-L-I-T-E ranking in Elite. It doesnt give you any special rewards... but I bet anyone who managed to do it understand what I mean.

As someone mentioned Metal Gear Solid...

I consider this to be one of the greatest game all time. The 1st time I finished it, I felt BAD that I had finished the game.. I wanted MORE of it.. I just begun playing it again! I have finished it many times for now.

But the plot is just a mix of stuff from Metal Gear 1 and 2. Its very annoying. That point where you face Liquid Snake with your barehands in top of Metal Gear is just too much like the point in Metal Gear 2 where, after destroying the Metal Gear, you fight Grey Fox (Who becomes the Ninja in MGS) with your barehands in a minefield (And the fact thats in a minefield makes it a lot more cool than in MGS).

That was really an annoying point in MGS... many of its great moments were already availaible on either Metal Gear 1 or 2. And it was STUPID how Solid Snake was surprised about seeing a key that changes its shape according to its temperature, as a few years before he had seen a key that worked in THE EXACT SAME WAY in Metal Gear 2.

The best moment in MGS, IMO, is when you have to rappel down a wall while being shot by a chopper. That was a great moment indeed :)

- gunstar heroes, the whole game. it's still over the top. the music, the changing boss on the minecart level, and the dice puzzle-level... nuff said
