Nice looking stuff. Also I know exactly what spectrum color clash looks like and I can't see it nowheres, definitely needs bigger blocks if it's there.

You're ofcourse right, I guess this is more of a "you can't see shit because everything is the same color" clash. :)

Movie! With music from the train stage of BO.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYCZ1dQAmnI

Gets into some kind of über-bonus-mode at the end when fully powered up and the boss refuses to let go of a bullet pattern after death.
Having lots of fun with this, will def be finishing it!

Whoa, looking really nice! :D (The train stages were my favorites in BO)

I know it's pretty early on for this one; but are you planning to put it up on XBLIG as well?

... or is everyone pretty much just jumping ship at this point? With all the nasty rumors surrounding the new Xbox, I could totally imagine someone at MS HQ just yanking out the plugs for all the XBLIG servers and laughing maniacally right after the launch. >_>

You're too nice, as always! :D

XBLIG, for sure. I just paid MS for another year so I hope to get treated well. Hope MS will come around and make something lovely out of this mess.

And I have it running on one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0yyPEfDH3o
Which is a nice little Android machine, really.

Performance issues. :(
BO had freakin billions of bullets, new engine can't handle squat. Works fine on PC/libgdx but the xbox isn't handling it.
Probably time to look over the collision detection algos and make shortcuts.
Depressed.

Youl work it out, go walk the dogs or whatever and it will all become clear :D there is always a way ...
I like how some Cave sprites are a bunch of animated bullets all clumped together into one, that never fails to freak me out (thinks of progear)

they get old pretty quick though :\

I removed a hundred bullets, didn't make a difference to the difficulty anyway, so now that's fixed for the time being...

Weapon select at start of stage and smart bomb.
Over-saturated so I don't get depressed while working with it... :D

Some readability issues, will probably lead to pink bullets in the end. *Sigh*
How come RF jet gets away with this kind if thing?

Need music. "My" music-guy just got a kid so I can't expect him to deliver anything.

Nah, it's pretty common. We actually did similar stuff for Neo's explosions - making a big cluster of them as a single animation rather than have a bunch of separate ones that would cause the game to hit the maximum sprite cap right off. I notice stuff like that whenever I play the classics, too, tons of clever little shortcuts to get around hardware limitations.

Thanks, hope to get it more varied than it currently is. But I guess the question remains, is it cluserf**k? :)

You cheating b******s!
I kind of get it for explosions but bullets...that's just going to look and behave weird.
Collision detection will become really off no matter how you do it. Going to have to try it out though and have a close look at progia.

Thanks!

I was try to do this and came up with this

that was absolute hell to animate, tumbling over each other.

Get creative!! maybe having bigger bullets, or even like a huge gun blaze may give the illusion of more going on ...

Nana had a good suggestion once, sounds for all the the enemies shots ..could get intense

Yeah, I could have a cluster like that and rotate it. Will try that, and even more of them maybe and as you say larger ones.

Rotating is not enough, you need to animate them , to get the effect, you can use my frames, just change the colors..i want be using them again.

I think thats the key, its all in the animation, make it busier

Like i said, it gets old pretty quickly though (to me) , so maybe its not your ultimate answer.

it can easily be done in blender...
stick four spheres together into a tetrahedron shape, rotate around 2 axis, take snapshots of frames, done.

Post DOJ and ketsui use pre rendered art, of course done over by hand...most newer 2d games do.the same... Live with with it...

Do a grey scale render of the tumbling, that will help you get accurate shapes and shading, color over by hand...
that its still pixel art, using a render as a guide, so you don't need to lie....
