Water Warfare - the only modern Japanese FPS?

Post by Obiwanshinobi »

Also known as Bang Bang Kids. The only (!) Japanese FPP that sounds like developed after 1993 to me. By Hudson Soft on top of that. Any good?
P.S. Oh, I see Hudson published Onslaught.
My biggest concern is input delay. The lag was quite an issue in Red Steel 2.
Also, how much sense does either game make in the singleplayer mode?
P.P.S. Onslaught looks more fun than Battalion Wars 2 to be honest. Batter animation to boot. If the controls are more responsive, now that's what Wii run & gun should be like.

Oh, the one I read it was bad (just couldn't remember the name). But yeah, I think Konami had "modern" intentions there.

Hmm, didn't realize Expert has 3D models like that, the screenshots I've seen before didn't show that. Hope to give it a look eventually.

There was Elf's full 3D remake of Wordsworth for Windows XP. It's an RPG really, but it's real-time first person
combat and has bows... Though I much prefer the original version over the remake myself.

Survivor uses H-L2 engine and assets that would be (at the time) mighty expensive. What I don't quite comprehend is how Japanese devs could get away with technology as shockingly retro as that of PS2 Wizardry/Busin. You'd think in 2001, FPP game engines were a bit more developed in other parts of the world.

Damn, how could I forget to mention Razing Storm`s FPS mode. It`s quite fun if played with Move or GunCon 3 and has a pretty cool final boss obviously inspired by MGS. It even has a full-fledged COD-style MP which I spent more time on than I`d be willing to admit(played at least a hundred deathmatches IIRC).

The stand-alone release of Time Crisis 4 also had featured an FPS mode which didn`t make it to Time Crisis: Razing Storm collection.
