F1 Circus!

Post by louisg »

Is anyone else a fan of these ultra-fast top-view racing games? I've got F1 Circus '91 for PC Engine, am addicted to it, but I'm also absolutely terrible at it. The difficulty curve is really bad, but you just want to keep playing until you master it. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone might have any tips. I've already discovered that you want to start steering into the curve gradually when you see the arrow for it. Is manual transmission a must? Or do I have to continually floor it to get decent times? Is there some kind of turbo button I'm missing? :)

Also, if you've played multiple F1 Circus games, which is the best in terms of balance?

And, for people who haven't seen this series... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrcTLBWZTP8 -- this is the '92 one

There's a top-down viewpoint presentation of a PCE rally racing on Super CD-Rom2 format to check out as well. It's quite fast in terms of overall framerate indeed.

I've downloaded all the F1 Circus games on my Turbo Everdrive setup and they're fun to give a spin from time to time.

Nice game, looks like Namco's Dirt Fox.

Funnily enough I was just today looking at Famicom's Family Circuit '91 which bears a striking resemblance, though that one is by Namco and not Nichibutsu.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Interesting! I wonder if that was first, or if it's better. Not that F1 Circus is bad, aside from the complete lack of a difficulty curve. Has anyone ever won a race on this thing? :)

Hrm.. maybe I should post about this on rolling-start instead.
