PC Engine console repair
PC Engine console repair
Not sure to put this in hardware or trading, but here goes. My RGB modded PC Engine Duo-R (from doujindance) bit the dust last night. No idea what happened, but powering it on does nothing. It did kind of "sputter" with the red power light once or twice, but now the red power light won't even come on at all. I'd rather not shell out another few hundred for a new PC Engine, so I thought someone here (PC Engine FX?) might know someone who could repair this. Maybe its a simple capacitor issue or something else... I certainly wasn't hard on the unit, used the correct original PSU, etc. Thoughts/advice/recommendations welcome!
Re: PC Engine console repair
Make sure it is the system and not the PSU that the problem lies with first.

I'd recommend opening the unit up and checking to see if any of the capacitors are leaking. If that's the case then it should be easy to replace them or pay someone to do it for you. The problems you described sound a bit more serious though but it's worth a look. Good luck !!
Re: PC Engine console repair
I had almost exactly the same thing happen (even to the power light flickering once) with a different system (computer, at that) and caps were considered the likely suspect.
System might be easier to check, but it might not be a bad idea to look for a replacement (new manufacture) PSU, either.
I bet you could check the PSU with a multimeter though.

Thanks everyone. I did try another power supply, but it didn't have any effect. I'll open it up later this week and look for any leaking capacitors or other abnormalities.
