STG Weekly #13: Guwange

Post by Aquas »

Heya. So we're thinking of Under Defeat HD & Strania for this episode. Looking to use iconoclast's near 2-ALL replay. (He doesn't finish it, which is peeerfect mweheh.) And probably one of his replays for Strania as well.

But we need commentators, so who knows UD HD, has a mic, and wants to come on the show this upcoming weekend? Granted, because the game is pretty straight-forward, having knowledgeable commentators isn't a huge deal, but, still. Also, Iconoclast, if you want to comment I'll yield to you of course. Send me a PM or say something here and I'll contact you about availability.

This applies to Strania, but knowledge is more of a factor for this game, I think.

I believe Kiken has the western record for Under Defeat. He has also made numerous comparisons about the two versions. I'd say he's pretty knowledgeable about the game.

MrMonkeyMan had some Strania replays uploaded to Youtube. Perhaps he'd be willing to commentate?

I could commentate on Strania(+ a little on UD I guess, but don't even have the 1-all), MMM or Iconoclast would be better though. Sounds like you won't have time to show Side Vower("sequel"/alternate levels, better IMO) if you have two games but that's not a big deal if it's a scoring replay I guess. There are high scoring replays for Side Vower expert and hard modes on youtube.

And yeah Kiken and TLB/medal should know a lot about UD too.

Kiken's Under Defeat replays would be a much better choice than mine, but I'm not sure if he has any high quality videos online.

As for commentary, I'll have to pass on that because I'm sure I'd be terrible. I'd vote for TLB and Zaarock (or MMM) if you're going to do an Under Defeat/Strania episode.

No problem! 8) Hm that seems like a decent team there, unless we find any better fits. :)

I have posted a fairly good quality 2-All run of UD on my Youtube channel. I broke it into 4 parts simply to keep the compression and upload times divided.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

If you prefer, I can send you the original capture file (although it's 1.91 GB).

I don't mind doing commentary despite having an awful voice. ;) I do have a decent quality mic as well. What time would this be recorded? I'm available on Saturday but not Sunday.

Would be a pretty long episode if there's a 2-all and an additional game. Not a bad thing though.

Looking forward to Under Defeat. It looks so simple but is hard because of the speed and angle of the patterns while the background is scrolling.

Where can we put up requests? In the comments to the videos or via PM? I would love to see some darius game. Never got into them put I love those aquatic inspired bosses and the sweet sweet abstract soundtrack. Hope to pick up some expert tips to get me started .

Anywhere really. I tally them up. That's another tally for Darius :)

Under Defeat is pretty cool, but there doesn't seem to be much to scoring, though I could be wrong. Never liked Strania... felt pretty bloodless to me, with a really contrived scoring system. I'll check it out for the Under Defeat coverage, at least. Thanks for making these videos, it's a really cool series.

Please please do Pink Sweets 360 at some point. And if you do PS Arrange as well, that would just be A++ double gold stars.

I have to also add in a vote for Darius Gaiden, and expecially RayForce and Mars Matrix down the line.

Under Defeat is awesome too though. Especially getting to see some New Order coolness. Hurray for G.REV week!

I'd currently vote G-Darius, Rayforce, and Einhander.

Axelay would be nice too if you could find something like a hard mode 2 all no miss clear or something like that.

Voting for Homura since the WR holder is from this forum and it really doesn't get enough attention. Same with Radiant Silvergun story mode but I'd imagine that'll end up in an episode eventually anyway

Re: STG Weekly #13: UD & Strania cancelled so... Guwange?

Post by Aquas »

Hey guys. Cancelling UD and Strania for this week, partly due to our dear friend Soda will be away on his Birthday weekend. SO we wouldn't be able to show off the graphics of UD or Strania all that much, in my case. Considering splitting up the two games for two episodes instead, so as to include Side Vower for covering Strania.

The replacement idea right now is covering Guwange. I've been playing this game like a nut lately so I think I have a few things to say.

It is indeed possibly I could do a couple run attempts live during the show, for a change. Maybe I could do 1 run attempt, then comment on a recorded run for all of the little details about the run. As I play I wouldn't be able to talk too much. I'm leaning more towards just commenting on an already recorded run of mine. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd like to see Guwange covered. I keep thinking about buying it but not quite getting the push to do it.

Well if we can vote for whatever then I'd pick Ibara first too but still Guwange would be nice.

I believe medal has good knowledge of Ibara too, correct?

Also in the future you should have Gus on again to talk about his EspGaluda II run, since he made it clear he won't be playing anything else in the near future.

Yes to Guwange.

Definately interested in hearing you talk more about the game after the live run - as I tend to like the chatty part of STG Weekly quite a bit :-)

Guwange +1. Live would be pretty neat, but not a necessity by any means.

Your Guwange video should start by showcasing that really awful strategy guide that IGN or whoever did. You know, the one where they just credit feed for the entire video, with no commentary. Take five minutes to pretend it's serious.

I think you guys should do a Compile episode, since Compile games (as I always say) are so forgiving that a half-assed idiot like myself can manage to clear them. Hell, give me a week and I'll find a way to demo some MUSHA or Space Megaforce craziness. Give me some extra time and some baseline questions and I'll gladly guest on the show. I'm almost done with my degree in game design, might as well try and use the critical analysis part of it to benefit someone else, right?

I'd rather see Strania get done first, admittedly. Add one vote for demoing Side Vower.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Guwange episode sounds great, Aquas' commentary on live runs of that has always been fun.

It's great if side vower gets shown in a strania episode since it is half of the game(more so than a loop), and the harder half at that.
