Insects in Mushihimesama

Post by Tar-Palantir »

So...did the game include several species of insects as enemies a la Darius, or were they 'generic'?

I thought of this looking at a moth this morning. Moths are badass

Someone should do a complete entomology comparison for the Galaga, DDP series and Mushi :o

EDIT: might as well throw in Bio-hazard Battle too...

Beetles are even more badass. Especially ones with gigantic gun turrets on their backs.

Not all bugs are created equal.

In Mushi, I love how the smaller beetles' backs have little slime bubbles when you shoot their gun apendages off.

Topic: There is some variety to the enemies in Mushi (Stage 1 boss looks like a weevil, stage 4 boss is a water skimmer, a few moths), but I noticed when discussing the game with BER that most are beetles or beetle-like :)

And the stage 2 midboss is a scorpion, which, if I'm not mistaken, is an arachnid, not an insect. Ah, well, at least it has lots of legs, so I think it qualifies. That said, I'd love to see a badass spider boss in Mushi 2.

Boo hiss :p Your Starship Troopers analogy is flawed! You can't compare Reko to Rico's Roughnecks

Topic: oh, well. I suppose Ryu Jin has more insectile variety.

(OK, so I'm still hung over)

Oh yeah, also: I used to be an insect-collecting nerd when I was in elementary school. Rest assured, every enemy in Mushihime-sama is almost identical to their real-life counterparts. From moths, to leaf insects, to water striders, to various jungle-dwelling jewel beetles, I recognized EVERY enemy from the game. (I freaked out on the last stage because my favorite critter always has been the praying mantis  ) Looking through the galleries was a blast; it was truly a flashback to my young days of collecting, admiring, and drawing insects.

So, to answer your question, Tar-Palantir... Every goddamn enemy is very closely based on a real critter. 8)

Spiders are animals too.

The only good bug is a dead bug.

Remember Cybercore? Shitty game but plenty of bug blasting action.

I like animal-themed shooters, they always make for interesting boss fights. Beats the hell out of bland giant tanks and boring giant ships.

DOWN TO THE SHOOTING BULLETS?!?!

:P
yeah, turns out the bullets are actually more "garegga style" IRL

early location testers dismissed them as being "invisible" tho which is why they now are humongus purple blobs instead.

LOL. .....minus the gun turrets and bullet curtains. Duh.

Though I like sven666's Garegga theory. XD

In that case you should play Apidya on the AMIGA.
The 1st level Boss is a Kick-ass Praying Mantis with one of the coolest Boss themes around. I can almost hear the Mantis’ legs thumping on the ground at the same rhythm with music. Perfectly suited for an insect Boss fight.
Chris Huelsbeck at his best.

I haven't had a chance to try Mushi yet (too lazy to open up & mod my PS-2) but Apidya has a pretty wide variety of bugs & insects & not just beetles. The Final Hornet Boss is one of the most memorable Bosses you could encounter.
A few other shooters where Hornets make a quick appearance are Swiv (When the final bosses’ dome explodes, a myriad of hornets pure out of the crack) & in DonPachi if I’m not mistaken.

Mushi reminds me a lot of Warriors of the Wind. I think Cave's programmers had vivid childhood memories watching that film & got inspired from it when they decided to make Mushi.

Even the giant level-3 mega-bug with all the eyeballs? What the hell is that?
SHOOT IT QUICKLY !
