Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
European PAL version confirmed to be working on a J360
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
I recommend anyone who wants a fun challenge try to beat the R06 boss on hard with no damage. He has a ridiculous amount of moves and movements he can do. Really interesting fight but they made him do way too little damage below revengeance I think, so most people will just breeze through. Rivals vergil/jeanne, good shit.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Haven't read the thread, but this was my general reaction:
Started on Hard difficulty.
Got a little messed up in R-00. No big deal, got through it.
Enjoyed the stealth and action sections.
Was a little disappointed by the length.
Final boss felt cheap. Made me rage hard.
Went back and found the last health upgrade, went into the fight with an extra health item or two.
Really sat there and studied him.
Realized how his patterns worked.
Thought the health regen shit he did had a counter and kept getting my shit slapped.
Realized that the regen he was doing was just a way of adding two health bars in a rather clever way.
I AM BECOME RAIDEN, DESTROYER OF HAGGAR MINUS MUSTACHE
Started Very Hard, got raped by the two wolves.
Replayed Hard mode for fun, had a blast shredding enemies faster.
Still hated that fucking crane section because of how I'd keep missing the jump over the fence.
Tried Very Hard again, realized you could run past the two wolf enemies.
Infinite Wig B is hilarious murder mode.
Read about the upcoming DLC.
I AM PUMPED.
I'm incredibly happy with the game overall. I'm aware that you don't really need Infinite Wig B to shred all the enemies. You can play with a certain flow and still shred everyone while getting delicious electro-juices to keep Raiden slapping shit like nobody's business. It's just easier this way, and makes bosses more tolerable for now. I'm really glad the cinematic moments don't factor into your grade for action sections, too; Platinum really nailed the game balance there, so props to them for that.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
No, there is a counter to the regen thing. Think about it for a bit and you'll probably get it. I don't think they could really make it more apparent without someone telling you what to do which thankfully doesn't happen.mrsmiley381 wrote:Thought the health regen shit he did had a counter and kept getting my shit slapped.

Still not sure if I'll use any wigs etc for revengeance s-ranks, would feel like using cheats to me(platinum should've probably made them affect ranking). Oh yeah, thank god you can skip the two fenrirs and rocket guys in R00 revengeance as well.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Yeah longsword looks cool, I like how it extends when you use it. Had no idea desperado body had that effect, I've just been using it cause I think it looks the best. Just finished s-ranking R-03, I guess after 04 the rest should be pretty easy. Not using any wigs but I am using armor breaker which makes a lot of enemies much easier. Ripper mode when properly used kills everything pretty easily anyway though.
The codec achievement seems the hardest to me, I keep forgetting to do calls during battles because you have to stay in place for a couple seconds like switching weapons lol. just tried calling during monsoon using smoke, was impossible to do it without getting hit

Ugh... Just beat revengance mode... What a bitch.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
For anyone interested about the VR missions DLC:
Just finished getting golds on all of them.. Worth buying if you liked the VR missions on the disk I guess, though these might be a little better and more creative overall. Stupid thing with the PS3-exclusiveness in NA, but I wouldn't say people are missing on much unless they're big fans of the VR missions. There are some great levels in the set though which is nice. None of the missions are as hard to get gold on as 18 in the main set, though 27 is pretty tough (was really annoying at first but I found some strategies that work very consistently, more so than in many of the original missions).
There are at least 10 dwarf gekko missions(which are surprisingly fun, it controls well) but only one swordless raiden one which is disappointing. I guess we'll never be seeing a boss rush mission, which sucks.

I liked the VR missions quite a bit actually. They're fun as one-off challenge rooms and they tend to be a little different than the usual 'kill everything and don't get hit' nature of the game. I was thinking of buying some EU MS points and picking up the DLC, but I'll probably just wait it out until they're released here.

Hey iconoclast, how hard is the 1000 in this game compared to say, Vanquish?

We are holding the secret power of shmups.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
I think it's a little easier to complete than Vanquish. There are only two achievements that might be hard to get: one for S-ranking Revengeance difficulty, and one for getting the gold medal in every VR mission. A few of the battles can be hard to S-rank and a few of the VR missions can be hard to beat, but I don't think anything was as hard as Vanquish's Tactical Challenges.
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
I disagree, risings achievements are harder IMO(and better, actually). the only hard one in Vanquish is the tactical challenge one.. no-damaging all the bosses (and enemy encounters..) + beating the hardest VR missions in rising combine to more of a challenge than just a couple missions in Vanquish IMO. Now if Vanquish had an achievement for getting a high score on God Hard mode we'd be talking, maybe :p
I guess it depends on where you're coming from though, Iconoclast has done crazy stuff in Ninja Gaiden II and other hack&slash games after all. And I've played console FPS a fair bit. Ripper mode is really overpowered in rising though, they should've removed it from revengeance or something.
Speaking of that I should start trying to speedrun vanquish again when I start feeling like playing a game by Platinum.. Rising is a great game and all but I think it won't have the lasting appeal as others for me.

If I were you I'd buy japanese microsoft points which might also be useful for shmup DLCs or region-locked XBLA games *cough*sega*cough*. Better confirm if the japanese DLC works on the NA version first though.iconoclast wrote:I liked the VR missions quite a bit actually. Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Rising does have a better set of achievements for sure. It's the only Platinum game that has an achievement for completing its highest challenge (S-ranking Revengeance), which is a nice change.

Yeah, I think the main difference between MGR and Vanquish is that MGR has lower difficulty, but it's sustained throughout the entire game; Vanquish just has a higher burst of difficulty in its Tactical Challenges. (This is ignoring God Hard of course, which is a lot harder than Revengeance imo)Zaarock wrote:the only hard one in Vanquish is the tactical challenge one.. no-damaging all the bosses (and enemy encounters..) + beating the hardest VR missions in rising combine to more of a challenge than just a couple missions in Vanquish IMO.
I'd probably do this, but the 360 version of MGR got cancelled in Japan so I don't think they'll be selling the DLC.Zaarock wrote:If I were you I'd buy japanese microsoft points which might also be useful for shmup DLCs or region-locked XBLA games *cough*sega*cough*. Started playing the JETSTREAM dlc on very hard, it's looking great so far. Sam plays very differently (in addition to special abilities much less spammable and no slowmo) and there is no store nonsense. I'm getting destroyed by LQ-84i(the tutorial boss of the main game), letting me know my place

Can't wait to see what they did to the other bosses since Blade Wolf is way more aggressive. Looks like the devs just had fun making this and it shows, the cutscenes are even more ridiculous than before lol.
Looking forward to your videos on this iconoclast

edit: oh yeah, MG Ray was the actual tutorial boss. got to him in the dlc now, no idea how to approach the fight yet.. beat him, much better than the original fight but the camera is terrible in it.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
It might be a while before I make any videos since I'm focusing on Daioujou at the moment, but everything I've read about the Sam DLC sounds good. Will pick it up soon.
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Beat it on V.Hard now. Pretty good and the taunt is a better system than ripper mode. Was going to go for the no-damage achievement but gave up for now.. fuckin' RED HOT SENATOR, well played platinum.
Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Metal Gear Rising headed to PC.
Haven't had a chance to play this yet. I'll definitely pick up the PC version.
I'd like to see Bayonetta get a port as well.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Played through the Blade Wolf DLC on very hard and beat the boss without taking damage. Disappointing after the Sam DLC, Blade Wolf is slower and has less tools than either character. He has a good projectile weapon (which he inexplicably can't use while jumping), has more stealth kills and a silly low visibility stance.
The boss they added is excellent though, it's got a good set of attacks which you need to use all your defensive options against and the real catch is he can randomly do any attack faster than normal which means you really need some good reflexes and planning. Random as hell though, I got him to do a grab move five times in a row once.
Considering what they did with the bosses in these DLCs MGR2 should be pretty amazing. Just hope they make the enemy encounters better.. I don't think anyone likes fighting geckos and mastiffs. If I get back to the game I'll probably play jetstream the most since it seems to me it has the most polished system.

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
I take back what I said about this game being too easy.
Very Hard is Very Hard, but unfortunately they give you Ripper Mode and all the upgrades from your Hard game. So, it's a wash.
Well, I finally got the chops(and courage) to do a fresh run using the Konami Code. So, Very Hard, starting from scratch. Upgrades as they come, and not fully loaded at the start. Not being overpowered, no ripper mode, and all that. Just makes it too easy. Especially Ripper Mode in the first few stages. It's just a game breaker.
Now THIS is what I'm talking about. I had a great time with it. Getting killed, frustrated, and generally beaten up. With moments of "fuck yeah!" when I finally take out some bastards. That's what it's all about. I even had to use a good amount of stealth and items(such as the VERY helpful EM Grenades).
Unfortunately, I've hit a brick wall with Armstrong. He laughs at my puny underpowered Muramasa sword. Taking forever to kill this dork. I thought I had a hard time killing the last boss of God Hand for the first time the other day. Psh! This is pain. True pain.
But, it's breathed new life into the game for me. I just wish it was longer!

I'd like to see a Vanquish port. It's sub HD visuals always bummed me out. I can only imagine it running at 60 fps too. Yowza.Gozer wrote:Metal Gear Rising headed to PC.

And it's the only game Mikami made at Platinum. I hope Evil Within(his last directorial work) will live up to his past works.

I see that Metal Gear Rising is on GoD through Xbox Live for a mere $39.99 USD and is still available at retail at the same asking pricepoint.

There hasn't been any actual information given, but Platinum Games representatives have said that after the unfortunate Bayonetta PS3 port, they want to handle all of their ports in-house from now on.Gozer wrote:Any info on who is doing the PC port?

Re: Metal Gear Rising (developed by Platinum Games)
Apparently konami is making DLC expansions for the game free and dropping the price of downloadable versions of the game.
I think Jetstream has better mechanics than the main game and Blade Wolf has an excellent boss fight, totally worth downloading for free if you enjoyed the main game at all.

Is it really getting ported to PC?
I remember times when such games literally didn't exist there. DMC3 port was a false start and I think DMC4 is the first one that really counts.

Onimusha 3 was as badly ported as DMC3 and RE4. Forgot about Chaos Legion and Dynasty Warriors 4: Hyper (although I didn't know about these when they were new).
Back in 2003 I found Return of the King to be the most playable button masher of the sort on PC. Not sure if Jedi Knight II (with mods!) is quite the same genre (haven't played it for years), but mouse and keyboard surely made it feel different.

I'm guessing that is to go with Japan's "Best" version release, which would have everything in it.
