RGB to VGA converter

Post by shmuppyLove »

I've seen these mentioned before I think:

Want to be able to connect a VGA monitor (LCD PC monitor) for use with PCBs, price is pretty reasonable.

Should I also be able to use it with an LCD HDTV with VGA input?

I have one of these. Should work just fine on a HDTV with VGA input. However, the picture quality is lacking compared to a XRGB (get what you pay for).

I'll agree with this. The SLG realllllly cleans the image up. without it, its a bit ugly. Not unplayably ugly, but not too great.
that being said, its AMAZING for the price. I personally use this paired with an slg in my supergun.

well, you can buy the original:

http://www.arcadeforge.de/product_info. ... 3iguieemn5

the toodle scanline generator, in case it will be avaiable:

http://godlikecontrols.com/

or you can do one cheaply by yourself, or ask a friend with soldering skills:

http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/other ... nlines.htm

the toodles generator uses the exact same components as the diy one. the slg3000 is more sophisticated.

i have made a few diy ones myself with minimum soldering skills and i am pretty pleased with them.

If you don't need adjustable scanlines, $19 incl. shipping to Canada gets you the MiniSLG

A cheap RGB converter that converts to S-Video going into an old CRT tv looks more authentic than this stuff and will have less lag and be cheaper. My 2 cents.

Yeah component SD CRTs were a late introduction, not remotely as many of them I'm sure.
But format wise the closest potential quality to SCART that mainstream sets had.

That looks pretty good, I think I'll go with this combo. Thanks muchly!

It's a good point about the SD CRT, I did have one before with component input, but the s-video conversion from my Vogatek wasn't very good.

The advantage here is that I have a 19" VGA LCD with a rotating stand that I can use instead of using s-video into my 46" HD LCDTV, and the pics posted in that forum thread look really good for such a simple device.

You bought an s-video converter for a tv with component input? Kind of defeats the purpose...

No the s-video output was built into the supergun.

yes, but watch out. The mini SLG doesn´t seem to work with my LCD monitor. I have 3 of them, and none work with my Samsung Syncmaster MW225 (digital). I did tests with them using a PC signal and a XBOX 360 signal, with the correct resolution of 640x480. The only result is a black screen with a ´floating´ message to check the video cable connection.
The mini SLG´s do work properly though with my 31K Hantarex CRT monitor, with an input resolution of 640x480 (XBOX 360). And my SLG 3000 also works fine with both monitors. So there is definitely a compatibility issue with my LCD and the mini SLG.

Aaron, the builder of the mini SLG is aware of this, I gave him the details, just this evening.

yes, but watch out. The mini SLG doesn´t seem to work with any LCD monitor.
Just to clarify, the mini SLG doesn't work with CKong's LCD monitor in particular. I have 35+ other users who have had no issues with other LCDs. I'm hoping I can get my hands on CKong's Samsung Model so I can determine the problem, keeping an eye on eBay :)

Oeps, you are right, that is typo error from me. I meant to write my LCD monitor, instead of any. I will correct it. Fortunately later on I also mentioned that there is a compatibility issue with my Samsung monitor.

In general LCD monitors are likely to have no issue, but there might be some specific types that don't work properly with the mini SLG.
