more Vifam - love the overall mood of it - enemy mecha are ace too - like some weird Scopedog Z'Gok hybrids or something.....

Patience isn't one of my virtues.
I can't complain after after having watched dozens of shitty quality videos in the 90's.

Imma watch Arcadia Of My Youth now
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
no I'm too tired - Dirty Pair Original OVAs it is

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
it was the casino episode - such brilliant imagination in a single episode the compressed little cool fantastical story kinda reminded me of some of the better Tharg's Future Shocks from 2000AD in their amazingness
started reading AKIRA - I have to say I'm barely into it and I can see that maybe the 'better than the film' stuff which I thought was just the usual pretentious/harder core than though stuff you also get with films ('oh the book is sooooo much better!...' etc.) is completely true as so far I've loved every frame of it, only thing is ironically I found it hard to get used to reading left to right again o_O .

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I think some might know by now that I don't like new anime for the most part.
I heavily enjoyed two recent anime shows:
Bunny Drop
Kids On The Slope
Both shows have good realism that I like a lot. Kids On The Slope has the usual love plot lines but it has Jazz (which I know a good bit of to name some of the musical pieces and albums on the show). Bunny Drop shows parenting in a different light (plus most of the characters are really likable).
Other stuff that I got pending to watch are:
Kaze to Ki no Uta | Song of Wind and Trees OVA (pretty much yaoi without making it porn, the OVA is suppose to have a good story)
Katsugeki Shoujo Tanteidan | Girl Detective Club OVA (most likely fluff)
Ristorante Paradiso TV (Italian cooking)
On books I'm reading the Mobile Suit Gundam novel. The novel is ok but you need to read it in short busts. I'm currently waiting on the Ai No Kusabi light novel lot to come in the mail. I love the early 90s OVA and I can't wait to read the books. Yaoi be damned, a good story is a good story.

Domino, just a heads up, but Girl Detective Club is pretty mediocre. I pretty much live for anything 80s OVA, but this one just sorta falls flat. Maybe worth the quick 30 minute watch, but out of all the OVAs I've seen, it's probably the least memorable.

Marrying your own daughter is certainly a new kind of parenting.Domino wrote:Bunny Drop shows parenting in a different light.

Takes all three Gundam novels and release it into one book.
That's in the manga, not the anime. Thank god the anime only ended after one year because the manga ending was fucking stupid.Ruldra wrote:Marrying your own daughter is certainly a new kind of parenting.Domino wrote:Bunny Drop shows parenting in a different light.

That actually looks pretty good, I like how it changes some stuff. Shame it's not available for my Kindle.

She's not blood related, but was raised and taken care of as one, so even legally she would be considered his daughter. And even if we disregard that, there's still a moral issue of dating and marrying the child you raised as your own.Hagane wrote:But she isn't his daughter.
But I guess that's a discussion for another thread.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Hey GaijinPunch - I've been tidying up my anime folder etc. and I looked at a bit of Yamato 2520 - well the very start - upon which it says:
'Translation: Paul England/Yutaka Sasagawa
Typesetting: Inactive
Raw Provider: aa666'
you legend

and now ehehe - my question is - do you have the 3 and 4 OVAs (or did it even go up to 6?) - all I can find are OVA 1 and 2 :/

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
finished AKIRA manga last night, so I'm rewatching the film now - it really is quite a bit different.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I finally finished watching Musashi no Ken. It was a long project that I started somewhere around last summer, watching an episode here and there. It's a sports anime, focusing on kendo, and covers about 20 years of the main character's life, his kendo training, friends, rivals and competition. Very realistic and down-to-earth stuff, with all the happy and sad times that come with it.
The fantranslation was pretty horrible though, it looked like it had been translated from Japanese to Chinese to English by Babelfish or something. There were typos and grammatical errors everywhere, and its worst it was completely incomprehensible. But mostly it was possible to follow what was going on, even if they got the names wrong most of the time. "Musashi" was often translated as "six three four", for example...it's like they didn't even bother checking the machine translation, should've been pretty obvious that goroawase is not the purpose here.
Despite that, very cool show.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
watched first 2 eps of Space Adventure Cobra TV - I didn't think it was possible, but so far I prefer it even to the film

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Are you watching the original 80s series or the new revamped version of the 2000s

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
The film is great, but man, the series is so much better. So much stark lighting and memorable characters. Much more emphasis on Cobra being a ladies man and an overall badass with no sympathy for evil. Can't wait for the Rightstuf release!

I just love it - I know technically it is an 80's anime. well it IS an 80s anime haha - but it has so much of 'that 70s sci-fi feel' - space discoey music, glamorous women all over the place, just everything about it is so 70s cartoon to me and I love it

Is this guy:

the reason it has those brilliant freeze frame and turn into painting bits like Versailles?

2x2=Shinobuden. Honestly felt pretty sad when I finished it. This is the type of humor I know I'd love as a young teenager, but as a jaded adult I only chuckled a few times throughout the whole thing. Still enjoyable without the humor value, just seriously missed opportunity. Stop motion+banjo ED never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

The film is meh, but I was screaming like a bitch when I saw Righstuf picked up the TV show. I thought that shit will never be brought over to the US. I fucking love the rubball episodes.
Loved Cobra VA on the show!!!Raytrace wrote:yeah it seems kinda funnier too - his voice is brilliant
Look how much detail per frame of animation when watching the show. It's epic.I just love it - I know technically it is an 80's anime. well it IS an 80s anime haha - but it has so much of 'that 70s sci-fi feel' - space discoey music, glamorous women all over the place, just everything about it is so 70s cartoon to me and I love it
