I bought two recently and noticed they do not suffer from the "sticky" dpad input like the older knockoff ones, I opened them up and they happen to have a different PBC. More surprising is that those new PCBs actually have "SEGA" printed on silkscreen (unlike the older knockoff ones) and as far as I can tell they do not suffer form the main problem the old ones had, that is sticky dpad input once in a while (which can *really* fuck up a run). As far as input lag go they seems to be a good frame faster, would need more testing to make sure though. They also have a driver labeled "playsega", the old ones were simply "usb controller" or something generic.
The old knockoff pads came in a variety of colors (white, black, grey) but always looked similar to that, with the sega logo in front:

Edit: And here's a pic comparing all 3 PCBs, the one on the bottom is the one that came with the Mac puyo "bundle" but apparently also has sticky input problems.

Now these "Play Sega" ones are not perfect either, they are *very* biased towards 4-way style movement (the diagonals are amazingly hard to input). But if you already have an old one buying one of these new ones and swapping the PCB and the button rubber (since the knockoff button rubbers don't make good contact with the better pcbs) will get you a really good saturn USB controller.
