R Type Leo graphic problems?
hello,
i got a r type leo pcb and i have the following problem:
texts in the game are pixelated
the stages themselves have some kind of graphical net in front of them, only the ship and the enemies can be seen correctly
i played the pcb with my new astro city cab.
what should i do to solve the problem? jamma contacts of the pcb look like new and there is no dust in my jamma connector of the cab.
thanks

First, check the cab voltage isn't too high or low, second, request this thread is moved to the correct section of the forum:

Sounds like the address lines for the graphics ROMs are a bit messed up.
Check for any damage around them, and any of the large-ish Irem customs.

Big double board? Stress the board and see if it goes away. I bet it's the big plugs between boards loose or dirty(??) I had a gunforce that had that prob. Wiggled proper and mounted to a board it was fine. Could still be voltage, too- sometimes big boards need a higher 5v (if there's a 5v knob on your power supply).

i will try it again this weekend and check the board again. will also post pictures finally.
it is a big double board.
is it possible to try that pcb with my MAK to make it work on tv? or could it be damaged in the process?

It honestly doesn't sound like voltage problem.

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
I had an Undercover Cops board that exhibited something similar.
The long connectors that join the game board and the mother board together had been stressed - I'd imagine this is fairly common as the smaller board sits underneath the larger one for some reason on the M92.

Need photos, but if reseating the connectors doesn't help realistically you're looking at a topboard fault.gbaplayer wrote:@system11: any suggestions?

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
here are some pictures. i did try the game with my mak and the graphic has those kind of "nets" and the picture was flickering a lot so playing is not possible. also the game texts are somewhat awkward. i did tighten the screws which connect both boards together but nothing changed...

just tell me what kind of other pictures should i make if those arent enough.

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
Foreground tile layer is fucked as far as I can tell.
Could be an addressing problem, you're seeing a tile repeated many times where you should see nothingness. Unless you want to learn about logic probes the only real avenues open to you are:
1) Try reseating the ROMs and the two boards.
2) Test with a meter between top/bottom boards on each pin of the board connectors - it looks like someone has reflowed them in desperation, but it could just be the photo.
3) Buy a Gunforce PCB and try swapping the romboards (I THINK that's the same M92 top variant).
4) Send it to someone else.

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
which roms should i try to reseat? by "reseating" you mean pull them out and in again? how can i do that without doing any damage? iam no professional and i would not break anything on such an expensive pcb...i have searched so long and finally as i got one it has problems...and the person where i bought it from is not online for the last weeks...

Ok, you definitely want to speak to the seller or send it to someone then.

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
Did you pay with paypal? If it was sold as working you could raise a dispute (if it was not sent as a gift). How was it described? If you were in the UK I would have said you could send it to me for a look, up to you on the postage.

i live in germany...so shipping is a little bit complicated...? but if nothing helps i would consider this option?

Re: R Type Leo graphic problems?
I was wondering what was wrong with the board? My R-Type II has a couple very minor graphical glitches I'd like to remedy. I'll try to re-seat the boards and chips next time I have it out of my cabinet. I also plan on getting LEO when I find one so it would be nice to know what your fix was.
