2nd loop already? Good job!

Are you using the golden dragon trick to protect yourself?

Yes, obviously. This topped my previous record (863'000) from 1989, when I used to play this almost every day in local cafe. I skipped school to play this :)

I did play this little bit in mame as well, but never as much as PCB as the controls always felt too laggy (though I must say that in latest mame build this works fine - especially in 64-bit version)

Perikles - 4,472,400 - ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (M72)

Video

The M72 version is harder than the M81 version by account of having more resilient enemies. This becomes extremely apparent in 2-2/8, killing those little guys in the beginning is not much of a problem in the M81 version whereas they'll unavoidably swarm the screen in the M72 version, making this section significantly harder. It's not as much of a deal as it is in Image Fight, but I do think a split is warranted.

Always great to return to an Irem or Konami game, nothing like playing these. It took a little while before I got familiar with the controls, after that it was great. Definitely one of the most (horridly) gorgeous shmups out there, music also takes its toll on the nerves which is obviously what they were going for. Great that they prevented checkpoint milking, too bad you still have to stick around for a long time in order to maximize the score. It's very hard to pull off for sure since you need to know exactly how much time is necessary to kill the boss of a given stage (and you have to execute it perfectly, too, of course!) but I don't find it interesting at all.

Why am I not surprised? Assuming the others used the M81 version, since it's the parent. Ruldra and MJR, please chime in on that if you happen to stop by.

I beat my own highscore after many years, and I VERY nearly had my first 2-all ever of this great game. My board is M81 btw.
Is anyone still updating this scoreboard after the recent meltdown?

You could have said that. I thought you were referring to Dumple's score.

Your post didn't show up as unread, so I missed it. It's added now.

M81 Version
Kino - 889,000 - Stage 10 - YES - ShmupMAME 4.2

This one's shaping up to be the easiest Irem 2-ALL yet; Gold Dragon's defensive maneuver makes most of the game a cakewalk. Scariest parts by far are the second half of stage 5, and avoiding that one power-up in stage 6.
