Japan Earthquake

Post by Pyongyang »

Just seeing this breaking news, unreal that it's hit the same area as last year.

Hope all the folk that frequent these forums living in Japan are safe and well. What a crappy 18 months it's been for Japan.

Live feed is here:

NHK said the government has asked people in the area to leave their homes and get to higher ground. Fingers crossed everything will be OK over there.

meh - no big deal. mdl didn't even feel it.. haha.
I got a ~1 minute warning via cellphone before it actually hit and was able to make sure my games cabinet didn't topple over like it did last year. Apparently it was a 7.3 with a 6.2 aftershock which I didn't even feel. 1m tsunami hit Fukushima, but all train lines are back up and running.

Glad to hear it's all good Mr. Jeffticles. :D

p.s: I ate that chocolate karate thing the other night. It's the most unbelievably amazing chocolate bar I've ever eaten. Can you get those bad boys by the box?

Actually no, can you get those bad boys by the shipping container?

Forget your trademark KitKats, I'm in love. Those karate things are extraordinary.

Haha. yeah - they're really amazing, huh? A very unusual, but appealing chocolate taste. My new favorite choco bar I think... And they're CHEAP too! I can get shipping containers of them no problem. I may start including them in all packages rather than kit-kats... They're a helluva lot cheaper!

I was on the shinkansen heading home when it hit, which isn't an ideal spot to be, but aside from the train coming to a stop and waiting a few minutes I didn't even notice it.

Been pretty quiet with the earthquakes recently, I was wondering when we'd start feeling them again.

It's odd, a similar thing happened to me. I used to live in the Cayman Islands and there was a 5.x quake there about 2 or 3 years ago. I was driving in to work at the time and noticed everyone on the island, especially at places of work, were all stood outside their buildings.

I wondered what was going on and when I got to work was told there had been an earthquake (I think later they mapped it to somewhere near Jamaica or the Cayman trench). It's a small magnitute sure, but in a small island like Grand Cayman and with most of it's sprawl being below sea level, the impact is (in my opinion) quite intense.

I didn't feel anything at all though. Probably the same thing for you on the Shinkansen that you were moving when it struck? :?:

p.s: Jeffticles: Yes. Those karate things are intense!!!!! In the new year I would like to order 907,000 of them. I plan to live on them for the rest of my days and nothing else.

Well, I was woken up at 5:30 AM by a much smaller one, so was kind of on edge. Not to be an asshole (more than usual) but the 3/11 biggie was the 3rd or 4th I had felt in a few days. SO... I'm going to keep a winter-friendly EQ bag in my genkan.

My place also shakes like a mofo. So, even the small ones are a bit scary.

A friend was on one for 3/11. He said the beer cart sold out in 5 minutes.

Over here by Mt. Fuji, I felt my apartment wobble for a moment. I think if I was standing outside, I wouldn't have noticed anything at all. My wife was coming home by bicycle, and she didn't notice anything at all. I'm glad the tsunami was only a meter high.

EDIT: I'm surprised they didn't announce anything on the loudspeakers here. They always announce everything on those. Last Sunday, they did some earthquake drill around 8am, waking us up. I looked outside and only a handful of old people bothered participating. My wife didn't even bother getting out of bed.
